Yesterday, NBC’s ‘Today’ Had an Awkward April Fool’s Joke

today-show-prankICYMI: The cast of NBC’s ‘Today Show’ tried to break out the funny on April Fool’s Day. More specifically, newly blushing soon-to-be bride Savannah Guthrie and her executive producer.

As in, on live television. And that’s when the #TVFail awkward moment happened for all of us to enjoy.

Guthrie concocted a sinister plot to trick her co-hosts into eating Oreo cookies. HAHA! I mean, funny, right? Only (sorry, have to wipe these tears of laughter from my cheeks), instead of the gooey Oreo cream that blocks your arteries … wooooo, hilarious … she had them filled with, with … my gut hurts … with toothpaste.

Savannah Guthrie of TODAY Marries Top DC PR Pro

Today in It’s Not Gossip If It’s True news, this morning Savannah Guthrie of TODAY took the opportunity to tell her co-hosts that she ran off and got married over the weekend…to Glover Park Group PR pro and self-described “recovering political hack” Mike Feldman.

And that’s not all…

Body Image Blogger Calls Out Haters on Today

In case you haven’t heard of “Humans of New York”, here’s a quick primer: The page, run by a photographer named Brandon, blew up on Facebook in recent months thanks to its candid portraits of the fascinating people who pass through our nation’s biggest city on any given day.

The project ran into some controversy recently when Brandon photographed an 18-year old New Yorker named Stella Boonshoft. Stella’s Body Love self-acceptance blog already had a significant online following when she ran into Brandon, but his decision to feature her intimate, underwear-only self portrait on his site increased the attention tenfold. In just over 12 hours, it attracted 270,000 likes, 10,000 shares and 2,600 comments—most supportive but some judgmental and dismissive.

The blog’s tone is unapologetic and somewhat confrontational: on her most-trafficked post, Stella writes “This is my body. Not yours…Meaning my size, IS NONE OF YOUR F*CKING BUSINESS.”

The duo’s viral success earned them an appearance on The Today Show, and this morning they talked to Savannah Guthrie about the trials and tribulations of virtual celebrity:

‘Today’ Show Producer: Leave Matt Lauer Alone!

NBC’s perennial ratings champion “Today” recently made some fairly big changes by pushing old hand Ann Curry out in favor of fresh-faced Savannah Guthrie. Amazingly, the world continued to turn.

But there’s a bit of tension over at 30 Rock these days, because “Good Morning America” has finally started to beat “Today” in the ratings after a nearly unbroken 16-year streak playing runner-up.

Right after the switch, media gossips began to wonder whether “Today’s” biggest star (apologies to mid-day drinking aficionados Kathy and Hoda) was behind the change. Even Al Roker came down on Ann’s side by accusing Matt of “throw[ing] one of us under the bus.” Leave it to the New York Post to come up with a fitting nickname for “Anchor Animal” Lauer and accuse him of being too demanding on set. Juicy!

Well, in an apparent attempt to control the rumors and counter the negative press, executive producer Jim Bell gave interviews to both The Hollywood Reporter and The New York Times “Media Decoder” blog this week.

‘GMA’ Winning This Week’s Ratings Battle With ‘Today’

This was Savannah Guthrie‘s first week as co-host of the Today show, but it may not be an overall ratings winner.

According to preliminary numbers, Good Morning America is winning the week so far by 360,000 total viewers and 40,000 in the 25 to 54-year-old age range.

Ratings for the new show Good Afternoon America are also doing pretty well, with the program getting 1.92 million total viewers on Monday and 2.04 million on Tuesday.

Today is preparing to bring its A-game to the London Olympics, which kick off in a couple of weeks. Any thoughts about Guthrie’s co-hosting skill or Good Afternoon America? The comments section is open.

‘Today’ Mishandles Ann Curry’s Departure

Savannah Guthrie was officially named the new Today show co-host, just a day after Ann Curry gave her tearful on-air good-bye. Now the challenge for Today is making the transition to a new host without alienating the fans of the old one. To do that, according to the NY Times, the show is trying to keep the change low-key.

The problem is this change was anything but. There were leaks and speculation for about a week. And on the day of her departure, there was this big story in USA Today.
