About That Today Show Interview with the Hero Pilot: Delayed “A Couple Days”
This morning, the Today show’s Matt Lauer explained the booking of Capt. Chesley Sullenberger, the pilot of USAirways flight 1549. NBC News announced Saturday afternoon that Capt. Sully would give his first interview to “Today” this morning.
He was scheduled to be with us this morning for his first interview since that incident. The pilot’s union asked us to delay the interview saying they really would prefer the investigation move a little bit further down the road before Capt. Sullenberger makes comments in media. We have been guaranteed we’ll have the first interview with Capt. Sullenberger. But we’re just going to delay it a couple days. We completely understand their request.
Also, the fourth hour of the Today show is continuing with Matt, Meredith, Al and Ann, and Natalie Morales instead of normal fourth hour hosts Hoda Kotb and Kathie Lee Gifford. Meredith Vieira, who usually departs after the 8am hour for her “Who Wants to be a Millionaire?” duties, is anchoring through the fourth hour.
