CNN’s Klein on Keeping Viewers Primed
While CNN had its highest viewership ever on Election Night, Fox News remains the leader in cable news, while MSNBC is in a dog fight for #2 in prime time.
So, what’s CNN’s plan to keep the numbers up? CNN/U.S. president Jon Klein, says ‘It’s the economy, viewers.’
“Ali Velshi emerged as the star of TV news coverage of the financial crisis,” Klein tells TVNewser. “He’ll be showcased in prime time.”
As for the rest of the prime time line-up, Klein spoke to the strengths of each show:
At 8pm: “Campbell Brown emerged in this election season,” says Klein. “[She is a] welcome voice of common sense in the sea of insanity. And she’s going to continue looking at events of the day with the healthy dose of rationality.”
At 9pm: Klein praised Larry King Live for continually booking top guests. “Larry King had a fantastic election season and he’ll continue to do so as well,” he said.
At 10pm: Says Klein: “We have the most popular figure, most respected emerging star in TV news in Anderson Cooper. He has an ever-growing legion of fans. He’s got a fantastic show that delivers news and analysis night in and night out.”
