Hurricane Irene Coverage Pushes Back Network News in New York

A rarity in the New York TV market tonight. All three network evening newscasts, which normally air at 6:30pm, ran at 7pm instead, as all the local newscasts continued coverage of Hurricane Irene. Mayor Michael Bloomberg held a news conference during the 6:30 half hour, pushing back the network newscasts.

New York City has not seen a storm like the one that could hit Sunday since 1821.

Sunday’s dedication ceremony for the Martin Luther King National Memorial has been postponed. The cable news networks had planned extensive coverage of the event. All now canceled.
