‘MTP’ Bringing Back Debate Series

greg_8-27.jpgStarting Labor Day weekend, NBC’s “Meet the Press” will host debates between candidates in competitive Senate races nationwide. David Gregory will moderate the in-studio debates, which begin with Florida candidates Kendrick Meek and Marco Rubio — no commitment from Charlie Crist (I) yet.

As we reported, CNN’s Candy Crowley will also be moderating a debate between the three candidates on October 24th for “State of the Union.” (Crist and Rubio previously met in a Sunday show debate on “Fox News Sunday” back in March.)

The network has also scheduled debates between Illinois candidates Alexi Giannoulias and Mark Kirk on October 10th and Colorado candidates Michael Bennet and Ken Buck on October 17th. Facebook will partner with NBC to allow users to submit questions online. The “Senate Debate Series” began back in 2002 with Tim Russert moderating.
