Networks, Cablers Gearing Up For Royal Wedding

With the Royal Wedding less than 48 hours away (Note: TVNewser will be liveblogging the coverage starting at 4 AM on Friday), the networks and cablers are beginning to gear up for coverage.

CNN’s Piers Morgan gives a brief peek at CNN’s production tent near Buckingham Palace, while also explaining why he thinks he gives CNN’s coverage an edge that the other channel’s do not have

“This accent, and this face—as these security guys will tell you– is a free pass for me anywhere in London,” he says.

Elsewhere, NBC News’ international news director Chris Hampson tells The Hollywood Reporter that coverage of the Wedding is “our biggest international technical build-out ever.”

That presumably does not count the work of NBC Olympics, which brings a staff of thousands to the the cities that host the games every two years.

NBC News president Steve Capus is in London, and while there he managed the network’s coverage of President Obama’s press conference this morning, as pictured to the right.

Also: ABC News gives a behind-the-scenes look at their production studios near the Palace, noting that the studio they are using is only 15 feet by 15 feet.

“The pictures will be remarkably similar on every network, and we have to offer better storytelling and better packaging,” Marc Burstein, ABC News’ head of special events, told Variety.
