Piers Morgan Jokes About Punching Larry King

CNN’s 9 PM host Piers Morgan appeared on “The Late Show with David Letterman” last night, and received some advice from Letterman on how to spice things up:

“You just need to grab someone by the tie and just pop them,” Letterman said.

“Would it work if it was Larry [King]? Or would it seem a bit too cruel, you think?” Morgan quipped.

The appearance comes as day three of the show took an expected dip in the ratings:

Up against “American Idol,” and featuring a less-timely and interesting guest in Condoleeza Rice, “Piers Morgan Tonight” dipped to 1.028 million total viewers and 239,000 demo viewers.

By comparison, Fox News Channel’s “Hannity” drew 1.974 million total viewers and 565,000 demo viewers, while MSNBC’s “Rachel Maddow” drew 1.094 million total viewers and 221,000 demo viewers.

Expect the program to get a slight ratings boost from last night’s show, which featured Golden Globes host Ricky Gervais.
