(AOL CityGuide 1/1/2003)
I moved to Astoria in 2003 and immediately got assignments to write up area restaurants. Not sure I'd write the same thing three years later, but it was fun to go, and fun to fool around with language.

Since the New York Daily News has shuttered its promising 25 Hours Online, I don't have URLs to show you -- but I do have copy. On this day, I had interesting dish about Kathleen Turner, Morrissey (of mope-rock fame), and Scarlett Johansson.

More of a feature story.

I am now the lead critic for Back Stage, which means I review most Broadway shows and many major Off-Broadway shows. This is my review of the Roundabout Theatre Company's revival of Eugene O'Neill's "A Touch of the Poet" starring Gabriel Byrne.

Since the New York Daily News has shuttered its promising 25 Hours Online, I don't have URLs to show you -- but I do have copy. On this day, I had interesting dish about Ozzy Osbourne and the musical he is writing about Rasputin. I scooped this.

Since December of 2000, I have written on a freelance basis for AOL CityGuide. My work has included coverage of theater, film, dance, music, art, architecture, and, most important, shopping. This particular piece, published sometime in 2004, was written during a period when the editors aimed to make sure that every Broadway theatre had a description.

I've also covered just about gay bar in New York City for AOL CityGuide. Here's an example.

(Back Stage 9/10/2005)
Back Stage has an occasional column called "Take 5," in which we ask well-known entertainment industry professionals -- typically writers -- to name their top five this and that as it would relate to actors. Durang was a great interview.
(Back Stage 1/12/2006)
For the first time, Back Stage now has an editorial page. In any given issue, we publish two out of four kinds of pieces: Our View, which is our in-house editorial; Talk Back, which is our reader-submitted op-ed; From the Editor, which is, by golly, from the editor; and Letters. This is the second Our View I have written (unsigned) for the paper. It doesn't run online. This is in Word format.
