Professional Experience

Looking for a medical writer to flesh out a thin manuscript? Put to rights a disheveled draft? Or maybe you need someone to unify the style of a contributor work. Whatever your aim might be, I'll work with you to achieve it. I have a knack for presenting complex medical concepts in terms any patient, student, or apprehensive parent can understand. With content expert Amy DeVore, I'm a co-author of The Electronic Health Record for the Physician's Office (Elsevier, 2010). I also share writing credit with the editors of the forthcoming first-edition textbook Advanced Medical Life Support, to be published in February by Elsevier in partnership with the National Association of Emergency Medical Technicians (NAEMT). Whether you need original content or an overhaul of existing material, I want to make you and your company look brilliant. When can we start?

Medical Writing

I will share writing credit with the editors of Advanced Medical Life Support (first edition), to be published this fall by Mosby/JEMS (Elsevier) in partnership with the National Association of Emergency Medical Technicians (NAEMT). The attached chapter introductions are my original work.
Introduction to a chapter on oxygenation. For readers who are unfamiliar with a subject, fewer words don't always spell greater clarity, and the original passage is perhaps a bit too concise. I expanded the section to ease the reader into the topic.
This sidebar is about Patients Like Me, an online patient community. It appears in The Electronic Health Record for the Physician's Office, published by Elsevier in 2010, a book I co-authored with content expert Amy DeVore, CMA (AAMA), CPC.
One of a series of about 30 articles I wrote on eye diseases and conditions.
Consumer information on digestive system structure, function, diseases, and health promotion.

Aviation Writing

This article is slated to be published in the next issue of Midwest Flyer magazine, probably with a different title TBD by the editor.
Intro to a 50-pp. handbook that covers irregular operations (IROPS) planning for events such as the 2011 Superbowl.
Published with a different title in the Dec. 2008/Jan. 2009 issue of the magazine.

Business and Financial Markets

This company's most obvious advantage is that it's a family business. Using the owner's voice, I wrote this warm, nostalgic letter to tell customers the story.
Article about the maverick entrepreneurs who launched the U.S. fast food industry.
The young entrepreneurs who own this consulting company wanted edgy copy that would differentiate them from stodgy competitors like Booz Allen Hamilton and Accenture.
This file contains excerpts from several pieces I wrote in 2008, based on data provided by the company's economists. Ibbotson serves Morningstar's institutional clients, such as banks and brokerage houses.
This passage precedes a brief glossary of computer terms. It appears in The Electronic Health Record for the Physician's Office, published by Elsevier in 2010, a book I co-authored with content expert Amy DeVore, CMA (AAMA), CPC.

Food and Restaurants

Excepts from restaurant reviews I wrote for the local New Times alternative weekly newspaper.
A piece about the new diet police.
