Location: Library Administration Center: 510 Stitt Rd. Charlotte, NC 28213

Schedule: Full Time - Monday through Friday, 40 hours per week.

Responsibilities

  • Perform the unpacking of materials from vendors which will include receiving shipments from logistics, unpacking boxes, checking packing slips, routing materials to specific individuals if stated on packing slips.
  • Process multi-format materials such as linking items in the Integrated Library System (Polaris), scanning barcodes, processing items (barcodes, RFID tags, property labels, etc.) from smaller vendors that are not already processed by our larger vendors.
  • Research and communicate with library vendors when new materials are damaged and need to be replaced.
  • Assist with receiving materials and processing invoicing from vendors.
  • Check-in and distribute library materials to branches via the Automated Materials Handling System.
  • Order and distribute supplies to branches as requested.
  • Assist with copy cataloging on an as-needed basis (e.g., backlog or large projects).
  • Assist with Interlibrary Loan processing on an as-needed basis.
  • This position includes physical requirements, such as lifting items up to 30 lbs and removing books from heavy boxes.
  • Participate in planning and evaluation of Collections & Access department operations.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Experience: Minimum of one year of library experience.
  • Education: High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Combination of relevant education and relevant experience accepted.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Associate’s degree preferred.
  • Ability to work collaboratively across the organization to improve library service delivery to the public.
  • Ability to work in a pleasant, professional, and effective manner with customers, staff, coworkers, other departments, and library branches.
  • Must have the ability to learn and become proficient in functions required to perform job duties, working effectively independently or as part of a team to complete tasks as assigned.
  • Demonstrated ability to work well under pressure and to meet inflexible deadlines.
  • Must exhibit effective communication skills, interpersonal skills and flexibility when collaborating with library branches, working with vendors, and the public.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge: Basic knowledge of equipment used in processing materials; basic research knowledge; basic editing skills knowledge.
  • Skills: Excellent verbal, grammatical, and written communication skills; excellent interpersonal and customer service skills; excellent organizational and time management skills with attention to detail.
  • Abilities: Building Partnerships; Communication; Decision Making; Information Monitoring; Technical/Professional Knowledge and Skills; Work Standards.

Computer Skills

Proficient in various computer applications including Microsoft Office Suite.

Work Environment

Works in an office setting with moderate noise.
