Overview

CDOC Technician III (Library) - Rifle at Colorado Department of Revenue. The position is located at the Rifle Correctional Center and may be used to fill future vacancies at this location. The department is committed to public service and providing accessible, effective government services.

Responsibilities

  • Under the direction of a Regional Librarian, Programs Manager and Programs Supervisor, supervise the daily operation of a library in an adult correctional facility serving offenders of multiple classification levels.
  • Design and implement the administrative operations of the library, including creating and revising procedures; writing, updating, and revising procedure manuals; planning, scheduling, and assigning work projects to offender library employees; developing work standards and monitoring work quality and flow.
  • Monitor and plan for the expenditure of library funds; solve and propose solutions to problems affecting library operations and work standards; exercise discretion regarding the application of library policies and procedures.
  • Assist in other areas of the facility during emergency situations/lockdowns as needed.
  • Work directly with inmates in a state correctional facility.
  • Provide reference services, information literacy instruction, and guidance on interlibrary loan; screen requests for eligibility and content; instruct patrons on loan procedures; search incoming books for content and contraband.
  • Provide library service to inmates in Restricted Housing/diagnostic units who cannot visit the library; recommend materials to meet educational, informational, and recreational needs; assign classification numbers and subject headings; monitor behavior and enforce security regulations; prepare annual and monthly reports.
  • Supervise inmate library clerks, provide training, and assign tasks; manage workflow and ensure quality of final products; perform annual funding and expenditure reporting; other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Three (3) years of technical or high-level clerical experience. This experience must be clearly described in the work history section of your application. A ny work experience less than full-time will be prorated.

  • Technical work: skilled work in applying specialized techniques to accomplish tasks; professional field relevance; ability to revert to a technically proficient performer if not performed by a technician.
  • High-level clerical experience: document creation, word processing, creating and revising office procedures, compiling and formatting materials (e.g., annual reports, newsletters), screening documents for eligibility, and managing unit funds.

Or a combination of college coursework and related experience equal to three (3) years. If using education to meet MQs, attach unofficial transcripts showing name, institution, degree, and date conferred.

Required Competencies

  • Ability to work directly with inmates in a prison environment; excellent interpersonal/customer service skills; ability to train/instruct others.
  • Experience with Microsoft Excel and Word; ability to create, edit and manipulate data; communicate via email; strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to stay calm in stressful or potentially violent situations; remaining alert, emotionally stable, and resilient; tolerance to stress and confinement.
  • Ability to read and comprehend English; ability to communicate fluently in English both verbally and in writing; ability to create accessible documents following plain language guidelines.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Relevant technical experience with the State of Colorado; knowledge of library services; experience using an integrated library system (ILS); experience selecting, processing, shelving, and maintaining library materials; experience working with a diverse population.
