We are seeking an experienced
Instructional Designer
to develop and deliver high-quality, instructor-led training programs for technical apprenticeship programs within the electric transmission and substation domain. This role focuses on hands‑on curriculum design (not eLearning development), requiring strong collaboration with subject matter experts (SMEs) and the ability to translate complex technical concepts into effective learning experiences. Key Responsibilities
Design and develop
instructor‑led training (ILT)
and
on‑the‑job training (OJT)
programs for technical apprenticeship roles. Create comprehensive learning materials, including: Student guides and facilitator guides Hands‑on practice activities and simulations Job aids and instructional media Assessments and evaluation tools Conduct
task analysis
to identify training requirements for job functions, systems, and business processes. Define
learning objectives , course structure, and instructional strategies aligned with business needs. Collaborate closely with
Subject Matter Experts (SMEs)
to gather, validate, and refine content. Participate in project lifecycle milestones including
alpha, beta, pilot, and train‑the‑trainer sessions . Apply organizational instructional design standards, templates, and best practices. Manage multiple deliverables independently while meeting deadlines and quality expectations. Communicate risks, issues, and progress effectively with stakeholders and project teams. Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in
Instructional Design, Education , or a related field (or equivalent certification/experience). Proven experience developing
instructor‑led training for technical domains
(e.g., utilities, electrical, engineering, or similar industries). Strong expertise in
instructional design methodologies
and technical writing. Proficiency in
Microsoft Office Suite
(PowerPoint, Word, Excel, Teams). Ability to work independently with strong
time management and communication skills . Experience collaborating with SMEs and cross‑functional teams. Preferred Qualifications
Experience in the
utility industry
(electric transmission, substations, or related). Familiarity with tools such as
Author‑it, Questionmark, Articulate 360 , or similar LMS/assessment platforms. Prior
teaching or training delivery experience . Work Environment & Additional Details
Hybrid role: Majority remote with
onsite presence required for milestone meetings and pilot sessions
in Livermore, CA. Candidates must be
local to the Bay Area . Occasional
overnight travel
may be necessary. Work hours:
Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM (PST) . Company laptop provided; personal phone required for communication tools (e.g., MS Teams). Travel expenses (mileage, lodging, meals) reimbursed with prior approval as per guidelines.
