
Impact Investing Associate

Boston Impact Initiative (BII) is a nonprofit impact investment fund founded in 2013 that invests equity, debt and grants to support social enterprises and community-owned real estate. BII seeks an Impact Investing Associate to help shape its capital deployment strategy and contribute to portfolio management, impact measurement, and investor reporting.
Position Summary The Impact Investing Associate will work closely with senior leadership and the Investment Manager. Responsibilities include sourcing, evaluating, structuring, and closing investments across debt, equity and hybrid instruments, providing strategic and financial coaching to portfolio companies, and contributing to portfolio impact assessment and reporting.
Key Responsibilities Investing
Discover new impact investment opportunities and evaluate their fit in the BII portfolio in collaboration with colleagues and community partners.
Conduct financial, business and impact due diligence; build financial models and draft due diligence memoranda for prospective investments in preparation for Investment Committee meetings.
Collect legal documents from companies and liaise with attorneys drafting investment agreements.
Provide financial, strategic and impact coaching to portfolio companies.
Impact
Coordinate and attend annual meetings with portfolio companies.
Analyze and synthesize portfolio impact data and prepare the annual impact report in partnership with the Chief Impact Officer.
Support the development and implementation of the Impact Ratings system.
Manage ongoing impact tracking for pipeline and portfolio companies.
Reporting
Research and present analyses of portfolio performance and risk profiles.
Maintain pipeline and portfolio tracking reports and written documentation on investment decisions.
Conduct monthly and quarterly portfolio reports for the Investment Committee and Board of Directors.
Produce quarterly investor reports (data sheets).
Take on additional projects to support the organization’s success.
Qualifications
1–3 years of relevant experience in corporate finance, social impact investing, entrepreneurship, or business consulting.
Advanced finance qualification (MBA, graduate degree in Finance, CFA or CAIA) preferred.
Direct impact investing experience is strongly preferred.
Demonstrated interest in economic justice, gender equity, sustainability and related topics.
Strong accounting, quantitative analysis, and financial modeling skills.
Resourceful, proactive and able to prioritize in a fast‑paced, team‑oriented environment.
Ability to handle confidential information professionally.
Knowledge of private market instruments (equity, loans, convertible debt, royalty financing, guarantees) and capital markets.
Understanding of analytical methods for determining fair value and investment merits.
Relationship‑management skills to support ongoing small‑business growth.
Bilingual in Spanish is a plus.
