About Boston Impact Initiative
Boston Impact Initiative (BII) is a nonprofit impact investment fund founded in 2013, with a mission to create a regenerative and equitable economy. BII invests in social enterprises and community-owned real estate, focusing on wealth‑building opportunities in diverse communities. As a Community Development Financial Institution, BII manages two funds: BII Fund I and BII Fund II, aimed at supporting small businesses and community development projects. BII also emphasizes education and capacity‑building through its Advancing Regenerative Capital (ARC) Fellowship, training fund managers to launch community‑based impact funds and advance justice‑aligned investment strategies. Additionally, BII launched the First Mover Fund to support emerging fund managers, particularly those underrepresented in the asset management industry.
About this Role The Impact Investing Intern at Boston Impact Initiative will support the investment activities of the First Mover Fund and contribute to the ARC Fellowship’s processes. This role involves assisting with deal sourcing, investment memos, market research, and strategic initiatives related to the fund. Interns will gain hands‑on experience with impact investing, fund diligence, and ecosystem research. This position offers a unique opportunity to collaborate with senior leadership and explore mission‑driven investing and the broader impact investing ecosystem.
Responsibilities
Support the First Mover Fund investment pipeline, including sourcing and screening potential investment opportunities.
Conduct due diligence on emerging impact fund managers, including market analysis and financial analysis.
Draft investment memos and presentation materials for internal review and discussion.
Track deal flow and maintain documentation for potential investments.
Conduct research on trends in impact investing and catalytic capital.
Support development of thought leadership and field‑building resources.
Assist with special projects related to the First Mover Fund launch.
Contribute to the ARC Fellowship application and selection process.
Requirements
Current MBA student, graduate student, or early‑career professional interested in impact investing, finance, or economic justice.
Strong research, writing, and analytical skills.
Ability to synthesize complex information into clear written and visual materials.
Strong attention to detail and project management skills.
Alignment with BII’s mission of advancing racial and economic justice.
