Overview
The Department of Military and Veterans Affairs (DMVA), Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Management (DHS-EM), Disaster Assistance Section (DA) is recruiting an Emergency Management Specialist 2 (EMS 2). This position is in the General Government (GGU) bargaining unit at a range 16 and is open to Alaska Residents only. What You Will Be Doing
As an Emergency Management Specialist 2, you will support statewide disaster response and recovery efforts by coordinating grant-funded programs, assisting in the State Emergency Operations Center, and helping manage emergency communications and resource requests. The EMS 2 plays a pivotal role in planning and active emergency operations, including deployment to affected communities to support local response and recovery. This position also administers recovery funding, ensures compliance with program requirements, and works with state and local partners to strengthen preparedness, improve coordination, and ensure effective management of emergencies and long-term recovery efforts. Qualifications and Competencies
Writing : Recognizes or uses correct English grammar, punctuation, and spelling; communicates information succinctly and in an organized manner; produces written information appropriate for the audience Computer Skills : Uses computers, software applications, databases, and automated systems to accomplish work Self-Management : Sets goals, shows initiative, and completes assignments in a timely manner; works with minimal supervision Flexibility : Open to change and new information; adapts to changing conditions Attention to Detail : Thorough and detail-conscious Special Requirements and Work Environment
DMVA is housed on Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson; base access requires security background checks and, potentially, a CAC. Must maintain clearance throughout employment. Willing and able to travel within the State, including remote areas; work may involve travel to remote sites via government vehicle, commercial airlines, small aircraft, helicopters, boats, and other modes; may require on-call duties and extended shifts; potential exposure to hazardous conditions. Valid Alaska driver's license and, where applicable, federal security clearance.
