Salary/Terms
Per NCBOE Athletic Pay Scale. Salary based on experience and education level per NCBOE salary schedule plus competitive benefits package equal to approximately 35% of direct compensation. Annual (12-month) duties to encompass all WVSSAC sport seasons.

Evaluation Evaluations conducted as defined in West Virginia Board of Education Policy 5310 and NCBOE Policy 3220.

Job Summary The Athletic Director provides leadership, organization, and supervision for all athletic programs. This position ensures that athletics support the academic mission of the school while promoting sportsmanship, safety, and student development. The Athletic Director works closely with school administration, coaches, students, families, and the community to maintain a high-quality, compliant, and inclusive athletic program.
Qualifications
Criminal background check conducted pursuant to WV Code §18-5-15c and/or §18A-3-10, as appropriate.
Valid WV Teaching certificate.
Valid WV Administrative Certificate preferred.
Prior secondary school coaching experience preferred.
Knowledge of the West Virginia Secondary School Activities Commission (WVSSAC) policies and procedures.
CPR and AED training/certification.
The employee shall remain free of any alcohol or non-prescribed drugs while in the workplace. Alcohol and controlled substance which affects employee productivity, safety or judgment in the workplace will not be tolerated.
Staff members serve as a role model for students in how to conduct themselves as citizens and as responsible, intelligent human beings.
Staff members have a legal responsibility to help instill in students the belief in and practice of ethical principles and democratic values.
Responsibilities
Coordinate and supervise all athletic programs and activities
Ensure compliance with West Virginia Secondary School Activities Commission rules, county policies, and state regulations
Hire, support, and evaluate coaches in collaboration with school administration
Develop and manage athletic schedules, including games, practices, and facility use
Oversee student-athlete eligibility, academic progress, and attendance requirements
Promote and enforce sportsmanship, ethical conduct, and student safety
Organize transportation, officials, and event logistics for athletic contests
Maintain and manage athletic budgets, equipment, and uniforms
Ensure proper maintenance and safe use of athletic facilities
Coordinate preseason parent/athlete meetings and communicate program expectations
Maintain accurate records, including rosters, eligibility forms, physicals, and insurance documentation
Respond to and manage discipline issues related to athleticsServe as liaison between school, families, and community organizations
Support equity and access across all athletic programs
Physical Demands The physical demands described are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
