Position Purpose
Strategic Analysts serve as a foundation for fundraising and alumni relations initiatives across Dartmouth, including the President’s Office and the professional schools, and are responsible for creating, managing, analyzing, and driving all prospect and donor data-mining efforts to help meet operating and capital fundraising goals, and extend institutional relationships.

Responsibilities
Dartmouth Advancement is seeking two Prospect Research Analysts to join the Research and Prospect Management team. You will drive data-mining efforts, develop and manage prospect portfolios, manage prospect management reports, and develop strategy briefings that impact fundraising. You will work with gift officers to navigate the solicitation cycle and identify high-potential prospects. You will be a key player on the development team, collaborating with fundraisers to bring prospects to a yes.

Key Accountabilities

Description : Proactively identify, evaluate, and monitor prospects, volunteers, and board members (individuals, corporations, foundations) in support of institutional priorities and fundraising goals through review and analysis of business publications, online services, internal data, and other sources. Use standard wealth assessment formulas and internal data to evaluate gift capacity, rate prospects, and prepare concise written reports, prospect profiles, briefings, summaries, rankings, assessments and other documents with detailed biographical information and financial analysis. Research and analyze financial information including stock holdings, salaries, and other compensation; conduct proxy analysis; and project profitability and liquidity. Work on special projects related to research and assist in adopting new methodologies and tools to increase efficiency. Develop expertise in specific industries and regions and prepare summaries and reports for leadership and constituencies as an internal liaison/consultant/resource.

Description : Partners with frontline fundraisers to create, build, and manage portfolios within a robust prospect pipeline and provide a metric-driven approach to fundraising goals. Attend project and prospect reviews to identify prospects and develop cultivation, solicitation, and donor-relations strategies. Lead discussions about prospect pools and advisory on interdisciplinary campus relationships, capacity, and interests to enhance cultivation and solicitation strategies.

Description : Serve as a liaison to offices including professional schools and campus partners; collaborate with alumni volunteers during reunion planning to generate prospect pools and assess ratings and reunion ask amounts. Share knowledge of current trends in philanthropy and higher education and provide consultative services on research methodologies. Ensure data is managed with high sensitivity and maintained according to policy.

Percentage Of Time : 50% for prospect research and portfolio management; 30% for collaboration and strategy development; 15% for liaison activities; 5% for other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
Required Qualifications – Education and Years of Experience : Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Three or more years of experience in development or a related field.

Required Qualifications – Skills, Knowledge and Abilities

Proficiency in Microsoft Office, databases, and internet searches.

Excellent research, problem-solving, and analytical skills with the ability to analyze and interpret business and financial data.

High initiative with the ability to organize work, meet deadlines, coordinate projects, and manage multiple projects simultaneously.

Strong writing skills to produce concise, accurate research documents supporting identification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship processes.

Strong customer service, interpersonal, and negotiation skills; ability to work with groups and individuals.

Sound judgment and discretion in handling confidential information.

Preferred Qualifications

Formal instruction in or knowledge of business, financial analysis, statistical methods, information systems, and research/report writing.

Experience in prospect research, data analysis, analytical tools and databases, and online resources.

Specialized training in research methodology or equivalent.
