The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs is seeking a skilled and motivated
Interior Designer
to join the Engineering Service Planning Section. This role supports the planning, development, and execution of interior design solutions that directly impact the comfort, safety, and functionality of spaces serving our nation’s Veterans.
Position Overview
As an Interior Designer within the Interior Design Section, you will work under the supervision of VA leadership to independently manage assigned design tasks from concept through completion. You will be responsible for planning, organizing, and executing interior design projects in alignment with established objectives, timelines, and available resources.
Responsibilities
Develop and execute interior design plans for healthcare and government facilities
Independently manage assigned projects, ensuring deadlines and objectives are met
Collaborate with engineering, planning, and clinical stakeholders
Assess space functionality, workflow, safety, and accessibility requirements
Produce design documentation, layouts, and specifications
Ensure compliance with federal design standards and VA guidelines
Support renovation and space optimization initiatives across facilities
Ideal Candidate
Strong background in interior design, architecture, or related field
Ability to work independently in a structured federal environment
Experience with healthcare, institutional, or commercial design preferred
Strong understanding of space planning, building systems, and workflow design
Excellent communication and project management skills
Comfortable working in a mission-driven, team-oriented environment
