THE POSITION

The Department of Health (DOH) is seeking a Community Health Nurse Supervisor who is ready to lead dedicated nursing staff and support key public health initiatives. This role allows you to shape community programs, strengthen partnerships, and ensure citizens receive the services they need. Your guidance helps promote safe, healthy communities throughout the Southwest District. Join a team that values strong leadership and meaningful service.

DESCRIPTION OF WORK

This role focuses on supervising nursing staff, overseeing public health programs, and supporting partnerships that improve community wellness. You guide services, track priorities, and help ensure high quality public health practices across the district. As a Community Health Nurse Supervisor, you will perform the following duties:
Disease Oversight:

Manage surveillance and case investigations for reportable diseases using established systems and manuals
Clinical Leadership:

Direct public health nursing practices and ensure services follow policies and standing orders
Program Planning:

Coordinate public health projects, support emergency responses, and team up with community activities to meet local needs
Community Coordination:

Partner with agencies, schools, hospitals, and health councils to support education and outreach efforts
Staff Supervision:

Lead nursing and clerical staff, review performance, and identify training needs to maintain workforce competency
Policy Implementation:

Support development and application of policies and procedures that strengthen public health programs

Work Schedule and Additional Information:
Full-time employment, 37.5 hours per week
Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch. You will work weekends and after hours assignments as needed.
Headquarters:

Will be determined by selected candidate and will be in Washington or Fayette County.
Telework:

You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time, up to two days per week. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office. The ability to telework is subject to change at any time. Additional details may be provided during the interview.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
Three years as a Community Health Nurse (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration);

or
Four years of community health nursing experience;

or
An equivalent combination of experience and training.

Special Requirements:
You must possess active authorization to practice as a Registered Nurse in Pennsylvania.
All employees possessing an active temporary practice permit must obtain licensure as a Registered Nurse within the one (1) year period defined by the Pennsylvania State Board of Nursing.

You must be able to perform essential job functions.

Legal Requirements:
You must pass a background investigation.
This position falls under the provisions of the Child Protective Services Law.
