Job Description Summary
The Integrated Manufacturing Engineering (formerly Production Technologies) Department is looking for experienced composite design engineers that are interested in working in a cross‑functional environment focused on delivering high‑quality aerospace composite hardware to meet our customers' needs and business demands. Within this role you will have the opportunity to support all composite hardware applications across our entire legacy commercial engine fleet, working closely with internal and external composite suppliers and the essential cross‑functional domestic and global teams that support hardware production.
Job Description
Typical job functions include assessing the quality of new‑make hardware, supplier process qualification against the critical design functions of our hardware, waste‑reduction efforts to improve producibility and quality, and development of breakthrough technologies to improve production of composite hardware through process and/or material developments. This role is critical to the success of GE Aerospace in serving customers and meeting essential business commitments.
Roles and Responsibilities
Execute the design, analysis, or evaluation of assigned projects using sound engineering principles and adhering to business standards, practices, procedures, and product/program requirements.
Develop specialized knowledge in the design, performance and production of composite hardware.
Maintain awareness of the latest technical developments within aerospace composites.
Contribute to strategy and best practices, ensuring delivery of commercial composite hardware to meet customer demands.
Possess in‑depth knowledge of best practices and understand how own area integrates with others; be aware of competition and differentiators.
Use judgment to make decisions or solve moderately complex tasks, taking new perspectives on existing solutions; analyze data to support recommendations and use multiple internal and external sources.
Act as a resource for less experienced colleagues; lead small projects with moderate risks and resource requirements; build consensus and develop persuasion skills.
Minimum Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Aerospace, Materials or Mechanical Engineering from an accredited university or college.
Minimum five (5) years of experience in an aerospace or mechanical engineering position.
Desired Characteristics
Experience and expertise in applying composite materials to aerospace/aviation hardware to meet critical design functionality.
Experience leading and mentoring less experienced engineers.
Familiarity with multiple methods of producing composite hardware using aerospace composite materials.
In‑depth understanding of quality processes used to assess and control composite hardware.
Strong understanding of aviation regulatory agencies (FAA/EASA) and ability to interpret and apply certification requirements to composite hardware design.
Experience in developing and interpreting finite‑element analysis models.
Humble: respectful, receptive, agile, eager to learn.
