Summary
This position is located in Public Affairs under the Office of the Director at Harry S. Truman Memorial Veterans’ Hospital in Columbia, Missouri. The Visual Information Specialist is responsible for a wide range of audiovisual products and services, including photographic media, video production, audiovisual support, graphic design, management of the medical center’s digital media platform, and management of the service’s purchase card.
Qualifications
Time‑In‑Grade Requirement : Applicants who are or have been current Federal employees must have held the required GS grade for at least 52 weeks by the closing date of this announcement (02/04/2026). Applicants must submit an SF‑50 that demonstrates eligibility. If the most recent SF‑50 is within the past year, an additional SF‑50 showing one full year of service is required.
Individual Occupational Requirement (IOR) : Applicants must possess a background in commercial art, fine arts, art history, industrial design, architecture, drafting, interior design, photography, visual communication, or related fields. Advanced training at a vocational or art institute is accepted as general experience.
Specialized Experience : For GS‑9, one year of specialized experience equivalent to GS‑7; for GS‑11, one year of specialized experience equivalent to GS‑9. Experience may include volunteer work if it demonstrates the required competency.
Education : Graduates may substitute higher‑level education (master’s degree for GS‑9, doctoral degree for GS‑11) for required experience.
Combination : Applicants may combine education and experience to meet qualifications. Graduate schools beyond the minimum required for the next lower grade can be used for higher grades.
Preferred Skills : Proficiency with Adobe Creative Cloud (InDesign, Photoshop, Acrobat Pro, Premiere Pro) and industry‑standard photographic equipment.
Duties
Develop, coordinate, and implement a wide variety of media productions.
Manage the medical center’s digital monitor displays and digital media platform.
Provide audiovisual support for large conferences and special events off‑station.
Offer consultation and assistance to providers and educators to support service line goals.
Adapt to new technologies, particularly computer‑based systems for photography, graphic design, and video production.
Seek innovative ways to improve existing methods and create new techniques for non‑routine assignments.
Handle occasional minor changes in tour of duty.
Maintain 75% of the position’s focus on graphic design.
Perform related duties such as portraiture, event photography, printing, videography/editing, and purchase card management.
Ensure compliance with health‑care‑personnel requirements as applicable.
Work schedule: Monday through Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
