Description of Job
Position:

Vehicle Maintenance Supervisor – Correctional Support Licensed Trades Supervisor I (CSLTS I). Responsible for maintaining safety and security of the general public, staff and inmates; ensuring the facility fleet vehicles are maintained; performing metal fabrication; and supervising inmate workers.

Safety and Security
Maintain safety and security of the facility and work sites. Train staff and inmates on the proper use of controlled items, keys, tools, equipment and chemicals. Observe agency regulations and promote a safe environment. Availability for call‑backs or additional hours may be required.

Supervision
Supervise staff and inmate workers, setting performance standards, delivering training, conducting evaluations, and coaching for career growth.

Inmate Supervision
Train inmate workers on preventive maintenance, inspection, and repairs of the fleet. Monitor progress, assess work, calculate hours and pay, and resolve grievances.

Operations
Operate the state‑owned garage, manage the vehicle fleet (passenger cars, pickup trucks, heavy‑duty trucks, construction equipment, water truck, forklift). Perform routine maintenance, oil changes, tire rotations, fueling, and major repairs, including welding and metal fabrication. Track mileage and fuel usage, maintain records for State Fleet Management, and assist other trades with construction projects across the complex.

Tool Room
Manage the tool room per Administrative Regulation 300‑09: organize, monitor, document, and supervise tools and equipment; maintain a perpetual inventory and place orders as needed.

Required Licenses and Certifications

Colorado Class B Commercial Driver’s License (obtain within 2 years of employment)

ASE Certification (Automotive Service Excellence) (obtain within 2 years of employment)

Minimum Qualifications

Four (4) years of employment experience in automotive mechanical repair, welding (metal fabrication), and/or heavy construction equipment repair. At least two (2) of those years must be in heavy construction equipment or automotive repair.

Legal eligibility to work in the United States, verified through E‑Verify.

Must be 21 years of age and possess a valid Colorado driver’s license.

Must pass a background investigation and an intensive physical evaluation, including basic defensive tactics training.

High school diploma or GED required.

Must pass a comprehensive medical screening to perform essential functions.

Strong command of the English language (reading, speaking, writing).

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with State of Colorado vehicles.

Proficiency in welding, metal fabrication or other construction trades.

Heavy construction equipment operator experience.
