Overview

The Department of Transportation is seeking a detail‑oriented individual for the role of Driver License Examiner Assistant. You will assist customers with the licensing process, verify identity documents to prevent fraud, and ensure meaningful interactions with applicants, contributing to road safety in Pennsylvania.

Description of Work

In this position, you will work at a Driver License Center, assisting customers with the application and update processes for their driver’s licenses or IDs. Responsibilities include welcoming customers, verifying identification, guiding form completion, and inputting data into the computer system. You will conduct vision tests and administer written knowledge exams to confirm familiarity with driving regulations and traffic signs. You will respond to customer inquiries and provide the necessary forms, brochures, and instructions tailored to each individual’s situation.
You should have a solid understanding of services such as REAL ID, license renewals, duplicates, out‑of‑state transfers, motorcycle licenses, and commercial driver’s licenses. You will enter test results, prepare letters for restoration requirements, and ensure fee waivers are properly documented. The role requires adherence to customer service policies, REAL ID regulations, Title VI requirements, and the issuance and scanning of special forms for non‑U.S. citizens. The goal is to deliver accurate, efficient, and respectful service to all customers.

Work Schedule and Additional Information

Full‑time employment, 80 hours bi‑weekly
Work hours: 8:15 AM to 4:45 PM, Tuesday – Saturday, with a 30‑minute lunch
Overtime and travel as needed
Telework: This position does not offer telework
Salary: Starting salary may be non‑negotiable in some cases

Minimum: One year of experience obtaining, evaluating, and providing information to the public
