GENERAL FUNCTION
The Optometric Technician at Target Optical creates exceptional value in the lives of patients by delivering exceptional patient service and ensuring all patients receive the highest quality of care.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Greets guests without delay and demonstrates urgency in providing service.

Determines the reason for the guest’s visit and explains shopping or medical procedures accordingly.

Reviews prescriptions and patient information carefully, consulting with Opticians, Doctors, or Retail Management when necessary.

Shows patience and courtesy toward indecisive or difficult guests and patients.

Performs work accurately and thoroughly despite time pressure and guest volume, resolving unsatisfied guests swiftly.

Manages appointment scheduling and computer procedures.

Handles and files all patient records in an organized manner.

Places contact lens orders, processes shipments, and submits invoices for payment.

Operates the POS system, collecting payment accurately.

Maintains store appearance, ensuring displays are clean and organized.

Reports potential safety opportunities to management.

Demonstrates safe work practices and complies with safety/regulatory requirements.

Performs pre‑examination testing with accuracy, explaining measurements and answering questions.

Provides coaching and guidance to patients on contact‑lens care.

Maintains and disinfects contact‑lens inventory and provides clinical support to the Optometrist as needed.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum of one year of strong guest service skills (internal or external).

High School Graduate / GED or equivalent experience.

Strong communication and listening skills.

Basic math skills (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division).

Strong interpersonal skills (friendly, caring, patient).

Sales skills.

Knowledge of store merchandise.

Familiarity with cash register, computers, and calculators.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Previous experience in guest service, retail, or optical.

Pay Range: $21.57–$30.72. Employee pay is determined by geography, experience, qualifications, skills, and local minimum wage requirements. A competitive bonus and/or commission plan may also be offered.
