The Augusta University School of Public Health was established in 2023 to address Georgia's public health challenges through education, research, and community engagement.

Job Summary
The SPH Communication Strategist is responsible for developing and managing messaging and content to promote Augusta University's School of Public Health. The position reports solidly to AU Communications & Marketing and dotted line to the School of Public Health.

Responsibilities

Leadership and Administration: Manage the daily administration of the Communications office, including editorial and digital communications planning and project oversight; serve as liaison between SPH leadership and AU Communications & Marketing; review and update website content; manage social media activities in collaboration with university social media teams.

External Communications Management: Curate editorial content to promote SPH initiatives; produce the annual SPH magazine; generate and pitch news, features, multimedia stories that highlight SPH faculty, staff, and student achievements; oversee website content and distribution tools; post current content on electronic bulletin boards.

Internal Communications Management: Oversee internal platforms such as SPH SharePoint and Teams, and monthly internal e-newsletter; manage communications or marketing requests from SPH faculty, staff, and students; coordinate photography and videography; create and maintain a growing library of digital content; translate and communicate university-level marketing strategies to the School.

Communications & Marketing Plan Development & Implementation: Oversee the implementation of the SPH internal and external communications and brand marketing plan; support SPH enrollment marketing plan; collect, analyze, and report data on the impact of communications and marketing plans.

Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in a related field and a minimum of three years of communication and marketing experience.

Preferred Qualifications

Master’s degree in Communications, Marketing, Journalism, or a related field.

Experience with media software, social media platforms, camera, radio, and print media.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Knowledge: Working knowledge of standard office equipment; detail oriented with strong communication skills; excellent organizational and prioritization skills.

Skills: Prioritization, time management, and social media discretion; supervisory skills for indirect supervision of personnel assisting with social media platforms.

Abilities: Maintain confidentiality; maintain a high degree of professionalism when interacting with all levels of AU personnel and external stakeholders; work independently, exercise sound judgment, work well under pressure, meet deadlines; exercise discretion and independent judgment representing SPH communications and marketing efforts.

Shift / Salary / Benefits
Shift: Days/Monday‑Friday (outside normal business hours may be required). Pay Band: B10. Salary Minimum: $52,500‑$65,600 annually (commensurate with qualifications). Recruitment Period: Until Filled. Benefits include health, dental, and life insurance; teachers retirement system or optional retirement plan; earned vacation, sick leave, and 13 paid holidays; tuition assistance for full‑time employees after 6 months.

Conditions of Employment

All selected candidates must successfully pass a background check prior to starting.

Candidate will also need a credit check for positions of trust or approved departmental purchase card usage.

Motor vehicle reports required for positions that require driving an Augusta University vehicle.

Faculty hires must provide proof of completed academic degree(s) and post‑secondary coursework; foreign‑institution candidates may require credential evaluation.

Employees must ensure confidentiality, availability, and integrity of sensitive information, adhering to cybersecurity and privacy policies during and beyond employment.
