Staff Accountant – Surefitters
Position Summary
The Staff Accountant will be a key member of the finance team responsible for owning core accounting processes, ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting, and strengthening internal controls. This role supports a fast‑paced truck upfitting business with complex job costing, inventory, and project‑based revenue. The ideal candidate is hands‑on, detail‑driven, and comfortable partnering with operations, purchasing, and leadership.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Close & Reporting
Assist in monthly, quarterly, and year‑end close processes; prepare and review journal entries, reconciliations, and supporting schedules.
Prepare and deliver accurate P&L, balance sheet, and cash flow statements
Variance analysis vs. budget and prior periods.
Maintain schedules for accruals, prepaids, fixed assets, and deferred revenue.
Job Costing & Revenue Recognition
Partner with operations and Accounting Manager to ensure accurate job cost capture, labor allocation, and margin reporting.
Analyze direct margin, labor efficiency, and project profitability; flag issues and recommend corrective actions.
Inventory & COGS
Reconcile inventory subledger to GL; oversee cycle counts and annual physical inventory.
Analyze inventory turns, excess/obsolete inventory, and reserves.
Ensure accurate COGS recognition for parts, kits, and installed equipment (e.g., shelving, service bodies, lifts, plows, etc.).
Accounts & Cash Management
Review AR aging, reserves, and credit memos; support collections strategy.
Assist with weekly cash flow forecasting and 13‑week cash models.
Internal Controls & Process Improvement
Document and improve accounting processes and controls; reduce manual work and errors.
Support ERP optimization and system implementations (e.g., NetSuite or similar).
Audit, Tax & Compliance
Prepare schedules and support for external audit, review, and tax filings.
Ensure compliance with GAAP and company policies.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance (required).
1+ year of progressive accounting experience
Strong understanding of GAAP, job costing, inventory accounting, and revenue recognition.
Intermediate Excel skills
Highly organized, detail‑oriented, and comfortable in a deadline‑driven environment.
