Position Highlights
Schedule: Monday – Friday
Hours: 35 hours per week, Full‑time, First Shift
Location: Hartford, CT (Hybrid flexibility per state policies)
Unit: Disability Determination Services (DDS)

In This Role You Will
Evaluate and adjudicate disability claims under Social Security Disability and Supplemental Security Income programs.
Review medical, vocational, and technical evidence to determine eligibility in accordance with SSA law and regulations.
Gather documentation by contacting claimants, medical providers, attorneys, and representatives.
Consult with medical and vocational experts to resolve complex cases.
Determine when additional examinations are required to complete a claim.
Prepare detailed written determinations outlining findings and eligibility decisions.
Manage workload and deadlines using electronic case processing systems.
Perform related duties that support high‑quality, accurate, and timely disability determinations.
Knowledge, Skill, and Ability
Knowledge of disabling conditions and medical terminology.
Interpersonal skills.
Oral and written communication skills.
Ability to gather, analyze, and evaluate significant information pertinent to claimants.
Ability to write reports and relate to diverse cultural backgrounds.
Ability to organize time, set priorities, and manage workload using electronic systems.
Minimum Qualifications
Five (5) years of experience in the determination of disability within a public disability determination entity.
College training in rehabilitation counseling, psychology, special education, social work, or related behavioral or social science may be substituted for the General Experience as outlined in the posting.
A Master’s degree in one of the above fields may also be substituted.
Successful completion of a Connecticut Careers Trainee program approved by the Department of Administrative Services may be substituted.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with the Social Security Administration Disability Program.
Experience with medical, psychological, and vocational terminology.
Experience with case management, including time management, prioritizing, and organizing tasks.
Experience managing a caseload.
Experience in customer service.
Master’s degree in rehabilitation counseling, psychology, special education, social work, or related behavioral or social science.
Special Requirements
Your license may require a valid Motor Vehicle Operator’s license or Identification Card.
Travel may be required with or without accommodation.
Character Requirements
