Job Summary
Patient Mobility Technicians mobilize patients to minimize factors that contribute to a decline in patient mobility and functionality during their hospital stay. Responsibilities include mobilizing patients, testing for minimal assistance, safe patient handling, and applying best practices in body mechanics, infection control, and patient safety.

Department Overview
Patient Support Services Department is comprised of Patient Transport, Mental Health Workers & Special Duty Caregivers, Lift Team and Safe Patient Handling.
Minimum Qualifications
AHA BLS CPR Certification or UC Davis Health CPR within 3 months of hire
Incumbent must complete Crisis Intervention Training within 3 months of hire and annually thereafter
Completion of UC-provided training and testing (lift equipment/assistive devices, proper body mechanics, etc.)
UC-provided training in Nonviolent Crisis Intervention and Maintaining the Dignity of Morbid Obesity in the Hospital Setting
1 year customer service experience
Knowledge of and experience safely operating safe patient handling equipment, including lifts, friction‑reducing devices, powered and nonpowered patient equipment
Knowledge of basic body mechanics and safe patient lift/transfer techniques
Good written and verbal communication skills
Responsibly ensure the safety of patients and staff by adhering to and enforcing the Safe Patient Handling (SPH) policy and using SPH techniques and equipment
Serve as a resource in the use of SPH equipment and movement of patients
Serve as body mechanics and SPH coaches and trainers for staff involved in patient handling
Strong knowledge of patient care support activities, systems, external regulations and internal policies
Demonstrated analytical experience with the ability to identify, analyze, report and resolve problems accurately and timely
Discretion, good judgment, and confidentiality
Skills establishing and maintaining effective working relationships
Ability to maintain composure, respond calmly, and use sound judgment during medical emergencies
Knowledge of safely operating wheelchairs, gurneys, electric beds, cribs, and special beds
Knowledge of proper body mechanics and patient transfer techniques to transfer patients without injury to self, patient or others
Knowledge of infection control techniques to safeguard patients and visitors
Knowledge and ability to perform CPR
Knowledge of oxygen, IVs/pumps, feeding tubes/pumps, Foley bags, and chest tubes
Ability to recognize and report problems with life support equipment or sudden changes in a patient’s condition
Reading, writing, and comprehending English
Ability to maintain a culture that values diversity, respect, and open communication
Judgment skills to make independent clinical decisions
Skills to work accurately and quickly under pressure
Knowledge of legal implications for clinical practice
Ability to use available resources (personnel and equipment) to ensure safe, appropriate patient care during a shift

Prior inpatient care experience; assistance in safe patient handling, mobility, and emergency code blue situations
