Primary Function
Perform shipping and receiving duties.
Job Duties And Responsibilities
Responsible for moving jobs, products between plants in a timely fashion, as needed.
Receive all required documentation and certifications of materials and send them to the appropriate department.
Document size and weight of shipment. Address where shipment will be delivered or picked up from.
Responsible for daily Hi-Lo and overhead crane inspections.
Responsible for arranging pick-up by the shipping carrier specified on the customer’s purchase order and/or shipping instructions.
Ensure someone is always available to answer the Shipping and Receiving door.
Lift or move materials and finished products using overhead cranes / hi-lo.
Set up outgoing scrap shipments.
Ensure each scrap metal type is weighed and in their separate, designated bins.
Wrap each pallet / weldment securely for required transport.
Responsible for keeping an adequate supply of shipping and shop materials.
Required to forward a requisition for shipping materials to the Department Supervisor for approval and continuity.
Maintain the work area and equipment in a clean and orderly condition and follow required safety regulations.
Maintains safe operations by adhering to safety procedures and regulations.
Maintains continuity among work shifts by documenting and communicating actions, irregularities, and continuing needs.
Document actions by completing production time sheets.
Other duties as assigned.
Education And Experience
High school diploma/GED, and equivalent work experience.
Ability to perform but not limited to the following tasks, be familiar with and able to interpret packing slips, enter into the computer the correct information, to acknowledge receipt of the goods into the purchase order and processing database.
Must be able to fill out bills of lading and be familiar with various forms that are used and required by the major freight carriers.
Must be capable of estimating weight and use that information to calculate the cost of shipping.
Must be familiar with proper packaging methods and able to interpret visual aids used to convey specific packaging requirements.
Must be familiar with the most common material handling equipment including forklift and overhead crane.
Experience with UPS/FEDEX online software is desirable.
Physical Demands
Employees frequently stand, walk, reach, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, and work from ladders or scaffolds; sitting is occasional. The role requires regularly lifting to 10 pounds, frequently up to 25 pounds, and occasionally up to 50 pounds. Close vision is required.
