Position
Your job as a Bakery Customer Service Clerk focuses on providing excellent and friendly customer service and contributing to the daily operation of the coffee/juice bar and bakery counter.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
Provide excellent customer service, address the needs of customers, and answer their questions in a timely and effective manner.
Accurately operate bakery cash register.
Acquire and maintain thorough knowledge of bakery menu, products, and services.
Take orders with attention to detail (e.g., preferences of dairy, vegetables in juice order, cake and pastry orders).
Communicate and consult with baking and decorating staff on special order capabilities, design possibilities, and production requirements.
Prepare and serve hot and cold beverages (e.g., coffee, espresso, blended drinks, juice, smoothies).
Maintain a clean and well-stocked self-serve beverage station (coffee airpots, condiments, and paper goods).
Maintain proper and accurate signage in display cases.
Assist with packaging, pricing, and merchandising bakery products.
Organize, rotate, and stock workstation and department supplies (e.g., syrups, coffee/juice bar fridge, pastry/dessert case, paper goods & packaging products).
Clean and sanitize work areas, utensils, and equipment.
Operate equipment (e.g., register, espresso machine, bagel toaster, bread slicer).
Answer phones and pages promptly and courteously.
Follow and comply with established procedures, including Weights and Measures, health and sanitation and safe work practices.
Immediately report safety hazards and violations to supervisors.
Perform opening, mid, and closing duties as assigned.
Work all scheduled shifts and attend required trainings and meetings.
Other duties as assigned by supervisors.
Skills & Qualifications
18+ years old.
Ability to follow directions and established procedures with attention to detail.
Ability to effectively prioritize competing tasks in a fast-paced, evolving environment.
Ability to work a flexible schedule including nights, weekends, and holidays as needed.
Clear and effective communication style, both written and verbal.
Team-player who can also work independently with minimal supervision.
Basic math skills.
Conversational English skills required when working with customers.
Bilingual proficiency preferred.
Education, Certificates, Licenses
High School Diploma or general education degree (GED).
Food Handlers Certificate (ServSafe or ANSI compliant organization).
Physical Requirements/Work Environment
Works with and around flour/grains, dairy, fresh fruits, vegetables, nuts, and/or other food allergens.
Frequently lifts/carries 20 pounds and occasionally up to 50 pounds.
Constant standing/walking during the workday.
Movements include standing, walking, bending, twisting, squatting, kneeling, and reaching; bending and twisting at waist and neck; reaching above and below the shoulders.
Hand use includes single grasping, fine manipulation, pushing and pulling.
Occasional exposure to extreme temperatures from work around freezers, coolers, ovens, grills, etc., inside and outside the store in all weather conditions.
Work in wet and dry conditions.
May require use of ladders or step stools.
Exposure to cleaning chemicals (FDA approved cleaning products).
Work with and around tools and equipment, including knives, PPE, forklift, pallet jacks, hand trucks, and other equipment.
Intermittent noise from equipment and machinery.
Wear non-slip, water- and oil-resistant closed-toe shoes.
