Position Overview
PetVet is a national veterinary healthcare organization supporting over 450 animal hospitals and specialty care centers across the country. We are seeking a Systems Engineer aligned with our company mission of providing the best pet healthcare experience in the industry. The Senior Systems Engineer is responsible for designing, implementing, optimizing, and supporting PetVet Care Centers' enterprise systems infrastructure across a nationwide network of specialty and general practice veterinary hospitals.
Reporting to the
Director of IT Operations , this role serves as a senior technical leader supporting core infrastructure including servers, virtualization platforms, cloud environments, identity management, storage, backup, and disaster recovery systems. This position combines deep technical expertise with strategic planning and operational execution to ensure scalable, secure, and highly available systems that support clinical, financial, and operational applications across a multi‑site healthcare organization.

Enterprise server and virtualization architecture
Azure/Entra/Microsoft 365 infrastructure
Identity and access management
M365 administration and integration
Storage and backup systems
Business continuity and disaster recovery
Systems monitoring and performance optimization
Technical escalation point for Tier III systems issues
Key Responsibilities
Systems Architecture & Engineering
Design and maintain scalable enterprise server infrastructure
Architect cloud environments to support distributed hospital operations
Develop infrastructure standards and configuration management policies
Evaluate emerging technologies and recommend improvements aligned to growth strategy
Lead migration to consolidated cloud based infrastructure
Cloud & Identity Management
Manage Microsoft 365 environment including Exchange Online, SharePoint, Teams, and Intune
Maintain and optimize identity infrastructure
Oversee SSO, MFA, conditional access, and access governance policies
Support secure integrations between clinical applications and enterprise systems
Systems Operations & Reliability
Serve as Tier III escalation point for complex system incidents
Conduct root cause analysis and implement preventative measures
Monitor system health, performance, and capacity planning
Lead patch management and system lifecycle management
Maintain and test backup and disaster recovery solutions
Security & Compliance Support
Partner with cybersecurity teams to harden systems and reduce vulnerabilities
Implement endpoint management and configuration controls
Support audit readiness and compliance initiatives
Assist in developing secure infrastructure baselines
Project Leadership & Growth Support
Lead systems components of acquisition integrations
Support infrastructure buildouts for new hospitals and expansions
Develop project plans and technical documentation
Coordinate with Network Engineering, IT Support, Security, and vendors
Contribute to IT roadmap planning and capital budgeting discussions
Leadership & Collaboration
Collaborate closely with the Director of IT Operations on systems strategy
Mentor junior engineers and IT support staff
Translate technical solutions into business impact for operational leadership
Promote documentation discipline and knowledge sharing across IT
Qualifications (Required)
Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field (or equivalent experience)
7+ years of progressive systems engineering experience
3+ years supporting enterprise or multi‑site environments
Strong expertise in:
Windows Server environments
Microsoft 365 administration
Azure
Entra
Preferred Skills (Nice to Have)
Experience in healthcare or veterinary multi‑location organizations
Experience supporting acquisition onboarding
Relevant certifications such as:
Microsoft (Azure Administrator/Architect)
M365 certifications
