Introduction
The State of Connecticut, Department of Developmental Services (DDS), Central Office, has a vacant Maintenance Supervisor 2 position located within the Maintenance Unit of the DDS Fiscal Division, based out of Norwalk.
The role is responsible for the West Region Lower Fairfield Regional Center (Regional ICF Facility), two Respite Centers, four office buildings, and four Community Living Arrangements (CLAs). The position maintains state owned properties and ensures compliance with fire and safety codes at these locations.
Primary supervisory responsibilities: oversee three (3) Quality Craft Workers (QCWs), three (3) General Trades Workers (GTWs), one (1) Skilled Maintainer and two (2) Custodians.
Position Highlights

Unit: Maintenance Unit (Fiscal Division)
Schedule: Full‑time, 37.5 hours per week, first shift 7:00 a.m.–3:00 p.m., Monday‑Friday; flexibility required to meet job demands.
Responsibilities
Schedule, assign, oversee, and review the work of staff.
Provide staff training and assistance.
Conduct performance evaluations.
Determine priorities and plan crew work.
Establish and maintain crew procedures.
Develop or make recommendations on policies and standards.
Act as liaison with other units, agencies, and outside officials regarding unit policies and procedures.
Prepare reports and correspondence.
Perform skilled duties as required.
Prepare plans and cost estimates of work to be done.
Perform related duties as required.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Considerable knowledge of relevant state and national codes and regulations.
Knowledge of modern methods and equipment used in the maintenance trade.
Considerable interpersonal skills.
Oral and written communication skills.
Skill in performing technical duties of the class.
Ability to read and interpret specifications, blueprints, and sketches.
Ability to utilize computer software.
Supervisory ability.
Minimum Qualifications
Six (6) years of experience in maintenance and repair of buildings.
Four (4) of the six years must include skilled tasks in building maintenance or equivalent military experience.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in maintenance and repair of buildings.
Experience working in facilities occupied by individuals with intellectual disabilities.
Experience across all trades.
Demonstrated computer skills.
Familiarity with the Emaint Work Order System.
Special Requirements
May be required to travel.
May be required to possess and retain current licenses, permits, or certifications.
Physical Requirements
Adequate physical strength, stamina, agility, and visual and auditory acuity required to perform duties.
May be required to lift moderate to heavy weights.
May be required to perform asbestos removal as per EPA guidelines.
May be required to use protective equipment such as respirators and safety goggles.
Working Conditions
May be exposed to extreme weather conditions and risk of injury from equipment.
