Sr Paralegal, Legal Financial Regulation

Job Summary
We are seeking a highly organized and collaborative paralegal to support PayPal’s Financial Regulatory Legal team. This role will function as a central project manager for regulatory inquiries, helping coordinate and execute responses to formal and informal requests from regulators, including subpoenas, civil investigative demands (CIDs), and supervisory inquiries. The ideal candidate will excel at managing complex, cross‑functional projects, partnering closely with attorneys, outside counsel, and stakeholders across the company to locate, gather, analyze, and synthesize data, documents, and other information responsive to regulatory requests. This role requires strong judgment, attention to detail, and the ability to operate effectively across a wide range of internal teams in a fast‑paced, highly regulated environment.

Essential Responsibilities

Lead the preparation and management of complex cases, including high‑volume litigation and corporate transactions.

Provide strategic input during case planning, research, and pre‑trial preparations.

Draft, review, and manage critical legal documents with minimal legal counsel oversight.

Oversee and coordinate discovery processes, including document production and e‑discovery management.

Train, mentor, and review work of junior paralegals and support staff.

Maintain direct client relationships, managing expectations and ensuring superior service quality.

Minimum Qualifications

7 years of relevant work experience.

Bachelor’s degree or paralegal certificate (ABA approved) is required.

Additional Responsibilities & Preferred Qualifications
Regulatory Response Project Management

Serve as a central coordinator for responses to regulatory inquiries, including subpoenas, civil investigative demands (CIDs), exams, and informal requests.

Develop and manage project plans, timelines, and trackers to ensure timely and complete responses.

Coordinate workflows across legal, outside counsel, and internal stakeholders to drive efficient execution.

Monitor progress, identify risks or bottlenecks, and elevate issues as appropriate.

Information & Document Collection

Partner with attorneys and business teams to identify relevant sources of data, documents, and information.

Coordinate the collection of materials from across the company, including Risk, Compliance, Payments, Product, Customer Support, Regulatory Relations, and other functions.

Work with internal teams to understand systems, data sources, and record‑keeping practices.

Ensure defensible, consistent, and well‑documented collection processes.

Data Organization & Analysis

Organize and manage large volumes of documents and data in collaboration with outside counsel and eDiscovery vendors.

Perform initial review, categorization, and summarization of materials to support legal analysis.

Prepare chronologies, summaries, and issue‑specific analyses for attorney review.

Help identify gaps, inconsistencies, or follow‑up questions in collected materials.

Serve as a key point of contact for information requests, helping translate legal requirements into actionable requests for business partners.

Process Improvement & Knowledge Management

Help develop and refine repeatable processes for responding to regulatory inquiries.

Maintain trackers, templates, and documentation to improve efficiency and consistency.

Identify opportunities to streamline data collection and improve coordination across teams.

Support development of internal playbooks and best practices.

Outside Counsel Coordination

Work closely with outside counsel on document collection, review, and production workflows.

Track deliverables, deadlines, and requests from external partners.

Help ensure alignment between internal teams and outside counsel strategies.

Pay
Primary Location – New York City, New York: ($42.54 – $60.81 Hourly)
Additional Locations – San Jose, California: ($42.54 – $60.81 Hourly)
Omaha, Nebraska: ($36.77 – $52.62 Hourly)
