
Fleet Safety & Compliance Manager

Position Overview
Fleet Safety and Compliance Manager at NOW Courier responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing all safety, compliance, and risk management programs across the organization. Ensures full compliance with FMCSA, DOT, OSHA, and all applicable federal, state, and local regulations. Promotes a culture of safety, reduces risk, and ensures the safe operation of fleet vehicles, drivers, and facilities.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Regulatory Compliance & Oversight
Ensure compliance with FMCSA regulations, including driver qualification files, Hours of Service (HOS), and vehicle maintenance standards
Maintain company compliance scores under CSA and proactively address deficiencies
Oversee audit readiness for DOT reviews, safety audits, and inspections
Manage driver drug and alcohol testing programs in accordance with 49 CFR Part 40
Safety Program Management
Design, implement, and continuously improve company safety policies, procedures, and SOPs
Develop and enforce company-wide safety standards
Lead safety training programs, including new hire orientation, defensive driving, and ongoing safety education
Monitor key safety KPIs
Driver Safety & Training
Oversee driver onboarding and ongoing safety training programs
Oversee driver safety performance, including ride-alongs, scorecards, and qualification standards
Lead coaching and corrective action programs
Oversee ELDs, telematics, dash cameras, and compliance software
Analyze safety data for improvements
Maintenance & Equipment Safety
Ensure all equipment meets DOT safety standards
Oversee preventive maintenance (PM) compliance and inspection programs
Ensure timely resolution of DVIR defects
Monitor out-of-service (OOS) trends and implement corrective actions
Support spec'ing of equipment with a focus on safety and compliance
Risk Management & Claims
Manage accident investigations and reporting
Work with insurance carriers and legal teams
Lead accident prevention initiatives and root cause analysis programs
Identify trends and reduce exposure
Leadership & Collaboration
Promote a strong safety culture across all levels of the organization
Serve as a safety subject matter expert for leadership and field operations
Lead safety committees and cross-functional initiatives
Report safety metrics to leadership
Requirements
Educational: Bachelor's degree (B.S./B.A.) in Occupational Safety, Safety Management, Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Transportation Management, Business Administration, or a related field; and 7 years of related experience and/or training; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or Certified Director Safety (CDS) certification is desired. Prior experience in the transportation, logistics, or courier industry is preferred.
Other Skills and Abilities
Strong knowledge of FMCSA and DOT regulations
Experience with audits and CSA scores
Safety certifications (CSP/CDS) are preferred
Experience with ELD systems, telematics, and safety analytics tools
Excellent investigation, problem-solving, and analytical skills
Strong communication and training abilities
Ability to influence and drive behavioral change across teams
Highly organized and detail oriented

Must have and maintain a verifiable Driver's License, demonstrated safe driving record, and remain insurable through the company's liability insurance carrier as applicable
Physical Demands
Regularly required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. Frequently stand; walk; and lift and/or move up to 25 pounds without an assistive device (greater weights may be required with the use of an assistive device). Occasionally climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
Work Environment
Primarily in a professional office environment with minimal safety/health hazard potential. Job duties may require operating in a warehouse environment with moderate safety/health hazard potential. Noise level is usually quiet to moderate. The role is required to be on-site. May require work beyond standard hours and on weekends.
