Job Summary

Are you a current U of U student who wants to learn about the field of Human Resources? The Human Resources Department at the University of Utah is looking for a student to assist with a variety of Human Resources transactional and support tasks, and learn valuable HR and customer service skills. Some of our previous student employees in this role have gone on to get full‑time jobs in the HR field after graduation.

This student will work a hybrid schedule in person and remotely to enter various transactions into a number of different systems, maintain human resources records, coordinate the initiation of background checks and I‑9s, and other duties as assigned. Strong communication skills and the ability to capture and process information in a fast-paced environment are essential. The student will be trained on HRIS systems and will work with PeopleAdmin, PeopleSoft, and MS Outlook.

Responsibilities

Process and complete necessary changes to Human Resources records.

Respond to incoming e‑mail requests.

Provide excellent customer service consistently.

Work with accuracy, detail, and maintain confidentiality with high integrity.

Data entry and complete various types of correspondence.

Maintain strong attention to detail and excellent organizational skills.

Use effective verbal and written communication skills.

Maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information.

Use Microsoft Outlook’s calendar and appointment functionality at an intermediate to advanced level.

Work independently and as part of a team.

Prior experience with Form I‑9 or human resources is a plus but not required.

Assist in special projects throughout the Human Resources department as needed.

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalency. One year of education may be substituted for two years of related work experience.

One year full‑time customer service experience or equivalency, and demonstrated human relation and effective communication skills.

Currently enrolled at The University of Utah.

Preferences

Customer service experience.

Data entry experience.

Familiarity with Excel.

Preferred Experience

Previous experience in a Human Resources office.
