Essential Job Functions
Provide direct nursing care to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities and communicate with their family members as needed.
Observe, assess, plan, intervene, and evaluate outcomes and document all aspects of patient care.
Interpret and evaluate patient response to established plans of care.
Coordinate scheduling within assigned areas.
Provide primary management for service area during assigned shift in a supportive and clear supervisory manner.
Supervise, counsel, and evaluate other nursing staff.
Provide direction and coordination of staffing and patient care activities on assigned units in a consultative manner with nurse administrators and staff nurses by addressing performance problems promptly and keeping accurate documentation of interventions.
Collaborate with Nurse Coordinator, other charge nurses, Psychologists, Physicians and Mental Health Supervisor to ensure 24‑hour continuity of care.
Develop and present information for in‑service training or staff development.
May travel to other state hospitals or facilities on an as‑needed basis, approximately 10% of the time. No fixed itinerary.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Bachelor’s degree (or foreign equivalent) in Nursing or a related field and three (3) years of experience in the job offered or related occupation.
Registrations, Licensure Requirements or Certifications
Licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse in Texas (or a state that recognizes reciprocity through the Nurse Licensure Compact), CGFNS, NCLEX‑RN, or a temporary permit to perform nursing duties under supervision while awaiting license issuance.
