
Supervisory Supply Technician

Summary
This position serves as the Supervisory Supply Technician (Medical) for the Medical Supply Distribution (MSD) areas of Logistics Service within the VA Health Care System. As a Supervisory Supply Technician, you will ensure that supplies and material are distributed to all areas serviced by Logistics by directing, supervising and managing the primary inventory point that receives, stores and issues supplies and materials for both clinical and administrative service areas of the medical center.
Qualifications
To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement – 04/30/2026.
Time‑In‑Grade Requirement:
Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time‑in‑grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement.
For a GS‑07 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS‑05. The grade may have been in any occupation – but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF‑50 that shows your time‑in‑grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials.
Specialized Experience:
You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS‑05 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization.
Planning and coordinating work to be accomplished by other staff.
Establishing priorities for a department.
Overseeing the receipt and distribution of supplies and materials for a complex medical center.
Maintaining stock at inventory locations.
Monitoring expiration dates.
Ensuring supplies are delivered timely.
Training new employees and answering questions on local processes and procedures.
Ensuring proper storage of supplies and materials.
Resolving problems and providing guidance to others on logistics activities.
Making recommendations on improvement of work production and quality of work.

Physical Requirements:
The work requires standing and walking during the entire workday, frequent reaching, bending and lifting of supply packages (occasionally weighing as much as 50 pounds). You may be required to push loaded carts of medical supplies weighing in excess of 100 pounds. With proper assistance, moves heavier items weighing over 40 pounds.

Sets and adjusts short‑term priorities and prepares schedules for completion of work based on priorities.
Advises, counsels and instructs employees on work and administrative matters.
Finds and implements ways to eliminate or reduce significant bottlenecks and barriers to production.
Provides guidance and evaluates work involving new‑complex or unusual situations and those without clear precedence.
Oversees the management and distribution of all supplies and material in the medical center through subordinates who maintain stock, monitor expiration dates and rotating stock, and perform daily inventory.
Monitors differences in records and resolves discrepancies.
Ensures availability of recurring supply items managed through the computerized inventory management system.
Analyzes management reports in order to manage and control the fund control point limitations, identify trends, correct errors, and resolve problems.
Works with members of the vendor and/or contract community, managers, supervisors and other staff throughout the medical center on logistics issues.
Communicates with subordinate staff and other administrative and clinical staff to coordinate and persuade logistics activities on the implementation of policy or procedural changes.
Work Schedule: Full‑Time – Monday – Friday – Rotating Schedule (Compressed/Flexible). No Telework. No Virtual. This is not a virtual position.
