Senior Technical Accounting & SEC Reporting
Denver, United States | Posted on 04/22/2026
Energy Talent Search is working with a
growing tech company
in the Denver area that’s continuing to build out its finance function.
They’re looking for someone who can take ownership of external reporting and step into the more complex side of accounting. This is a visible role where you’re working directly with leadership and auditors, not buried in a back-office function.
What You’ll Actually Be Doing
Leading the company’s external reporting process across reporting cycles
Preparing financial statements and disclosures that are clean, accurate, and audit-ready
Acting as the internal resource on technical accounting matters as they arise
Working directly with external auditors and helping drive timelines
Supporting key business activity (equity, transactions, and other non-routine items)
Interpreting new accounting guidance and applying what’s relevant
Improving reporting processes and tightening overall structure
This role requires
hands-on experience with public company reporting —not just exposure.
You should be comfortable:
Owning or heavily contributing to quarterly and annual filings
Working directly within the reporting process, not just supporting from the side
Preparing and reviewing disclosures tied to financial statements
Understanding how reporting ties back to U.S. GAAP and audit requirements
Managing timelines and deliverables tied to external reporting cycles
? Candidates coming strictly from private company accounting or internal industry roles without direct SEC exposure will not be a fit.
Requirements
What They’re Looking For
CPA required
Background in public accounting (Big 4 or similar strongly preferred)
Direct SEC reporting experience is required
Strong understanding of U.S. GAAP in a public company environment
Experience working through technical accounting issues—not just standard close/reporting
Ability to communicate clearly with leadership and auditors
Someone who can operate independently and take ownership
What the Role Feels Like
Mix of recurring reporting cycles and more complex, project-driven accounting work
High visibility with leadership and external auditors
Fast-moving environment with ongoing growth and change
Expectation to think through issues—not just execute
Why This Role Stands Out
True ownership of reporting and technical accounting
Exposure to more complex accounting areas early
Smaller team environment where your work is visible
Strong move out of public accounting into something more dynamic
Background
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance required (advanced degree is a plus)
Typically targeting someone in the ~5–8 year range
Public accounting background is key
Additional Notes
Denver-based candidates only
Full benefits package included
Compensation
$140K – $150K base
If you’ve been directly involved in SEC reporting and are looking to step into a role where you’ll own the process end-to-end, this is a strong opportunity.
