Position Summary
The Registered Nurse is a member of the interdisciplinary team working in collaboration with the Physician. The Registered Nurse utilizes the nursing care process consistent with their license and/or certification, including the initiation of a culturally competent continuum of care in inpatient, outpatient, and community settings. The Registered Nurse oversees coordination of the interdisciplinary plan of care and ensures consistency with the medical treatment plan.

Patient Care Process

Assessment

– an orderly process consisting of identification, gathering, and organization of subjective and objective data pertaining to the patient, family, and significant other, including physical, psychosocial, spiritual, and cultural aspects.

Planning

– an organized step that identifies actual or potential problems and desired outcomes (goals), resulting in a documented plan of care that directs the patient, family, and interdisciplinary team.

Intervention

– the specific interventions or orders implemented in accordance with the plan of care and medical treatment plan.

Evaluation

– a step that determines the effectiveness of interventions in achieving the plan of care and establishes conclusions about whether desired outcomes were achieved. This step may initiate reassessment and revisions to problems, goals, plan of care, and interventions. It includes:

Patients have problems identified and prioritized relative to biophysical, psychological, environmental, self-care, educational, and social status.

Goals are identified consistently with the problem to guide patient care and health promotion.

Education is tailored to the identified problem and associated goals, promoting patient empowerment.

Employee may be required to perform limited laboratory services, including specimen collection, processing, quality control testing, instrument maintenance, monitoring, recording, and reporting results to clinicians.

The Registered Nurse actively supports performance improvement initiatives and provides leadership to other members of the patient care team. By participating in educational activities, the Registered Nurse assumes responsibility for continued professional and personal growth.

Qualifications

Graduate of an accredited school of nursing; BSN preferred.

RNs hired without a BSN must be enrolled in a BSN program within one year and complete it within three years.

Current licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of New Jersey or a current multi‑state license.

BLS required.

Valid NJ Driver's License is required for all employees in the Adult and Child Partial Programs.

Experience
Proficiency in Clinical Applications is preferred at the time of hire; incumbents within the position will be trained and expected to demonstrate this skill within 30‑60 days from the date of hire.

Performance Expectations
Demonstrates the ability to perform the department‑specific competencies as listed on the Assessment and Evaluation Tool.

Work Environment

Potential exposure to hazards and risks of the hospital environment, blood‑borne pathogens, infectious disease, hazardous substances, and potential injury.

Includes extensive reaching, stooping, kneeling, crouching, standing, walking (including stairs), lifting 25‑50 pounds frequently, lifting 50‑100 pounds with assistance occasionally, and pushing and pulling heavy equipment.

Some departments require the ability to distinguish colors.

Essential functions of this position are listed on the department‑specific Assessment and Evaluation Tool.

Work Environment in the Electrophysiology Lab & Procedural Areas

Potential exposure to hazards and risks of the hospital environment, blood‑borne pathogens, infectious disease, hazardous substances, latex exposure, radiation exposure, and potential injury.

Includes extensive reaching, stooping, kneeling, crouching, standing (wearing lead), walking (including stairs), lifting 25‑50 pounds frequently, lifting 50‑100 pounds with assistance occasionally, pushing and pulling heavy equipment, transporting patients on stretchers unassisted, manual dexterity to hand off instruments, and maneuvering in small congested work areas.
