Payroll Supervisor

This role is responsible for overseeing payroll operations in a high-volume, complex environment, ensuring accurate, compliant, and timely payroll processing across a diverse workforce. You will supervise payroll staff while maintaining data integrity and operational excellence across all payroll activities. The position requires strong expertise in end-to-end payroll processes, including incentives, commissions, garnishments, and union-related requirements. You will also play a key role in managing escalations, improving payroll systems, and ensuring compliance with regulatory and collective bargaining obligations. Working in a data-driven environment, you will track performance metrics, support process improvements, and help strengthen payroll controls and reporting. This is a hands-on leadership role where accuracy, compliance, and continuous improvement are essential to success.
Accountabilities:
Supervise and support payroll operations to ensure accurate, timely, and compliant payroll processing across all employee groups.
Manage complex payroll activities including incentives, commissions, garnishments, shift differentials, and escalations.
Ensure compliance with union collective bargaining agreements and applicable payroll regulations.
Oversee resolution of payroll escalations and provide guidance to payroll processors and analysts on complex issues.
Monitor payroll KPIs and metrics to assess performance, data integrity, and operational efficiency.
Manage processing of garnishment orders and ensure compliance with legal and regulatory requirements.
Support payroll operations during special scenarios such as disaster relief or high-volume periods.
Provide technical expertise on payroll systems and support the creation of complex ad-hoc reporting and data analysis.
Collaborate with stakeholders to analyze payroll data and provide actionable insights for operational improvements.
Lead process improvement initiatives and support training development for payroll teams and stakeholders.
Requirements:
Minimum of 3 years of payroll experience in a complex or high-volume environment.
Strong understanding of end-to-end payroll processes, including garnishments, commissions, and incentive structures.
Experience working with union environments and collective bargaining agreements is highly preferred.
Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret payroll data and resolve discrepancies.
Experience managing payroll systems and providing technical support to payroll teams.
Ability to create and interpret reports, metrics, and dashboards to support decision-making.
Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to manage escalations effectively.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for collaboration across teams and stakeholders.
Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
