Manual Lathe Operator
We are seeking a dedicated Manual Lathe Operator to join our team for the 1st shift 5am-3:30pm or 2nd shift, working from 3pm to 1am, Monday through Thursday, with occasional overtime on Fridays. This position involves operating manual lathes to turn down large graphite electrodes to the proper diameter, utilizing overhead hoists and cranes for material handling.
Responsibilities
Operate manual lathes safely and efficiently, turning graphite electrodes to specified diameters.
Read and interpret blueprints to machine parts to precise specifications.
Set up and operate a variety of lathe operations, selecting appropriate feed rates, spindle speeds, and depths of cut.
Utilize tools for operations such as turning, boring, drilling, facing, and thread cutting.
Troubleshoot machining issues related to tooling, setups, speeds, and feeds.
Conduct various inspection procedures using micrometers, dial indicators, and other measuring equipment.
Perform daily machine maintenance and complete required documentation.
Use lifting aids such as cranes and straps for material handling.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Conversational programming, CNC lathe, and mill experience.
Ability to operate the DNC system for program uploads and downloads.
Associate's Degree in Machine Tool Technology or equivalent, with 3 years of machine tool experience.

Work Environment
The work environment includes exposure to moving mechanical parts and higher noise levels in the shop. Employees are required to wear steel-toed shoes, hearing protection, and eye protection. The shop setting may be dirty due to the machining of graphite, though excellent air filtration and dust collection systems are in place.

Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $22.00 - $22.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
