Interim Controller

Position: Interim Controller
Location: Colorado-based (on-site, business-casual environment)
Industry: Tech-enabled services (PE-backed)
Mission-driven organization

About the Role

We are seeking a highly capable Interim Controller who can immediately step in to lead the accounting function during a period of rapid growth and operational scaling. This role requires a seasoned professional with hands-on NetSuite expertise, strong knowledge of GAAP and P&L management, and experience within private equity–backed service or technology organizations.

The Interim Controller will partner closely with the CFO and collaborate with a tight‑knit, fast‑paced team that values diligence, ownership, and the ability to execute. This is an on‑site role within a mission‑driven environment.

Key Responsibilities

1. Own the Month-End Close

Lead and manage a 5‑day close process. Oversee staff responsible for core close tasks, including reconciliations, journal entries, and adjustments. Ensure all transactions are accurately captured and clean, audit‑ready financials are delivered on time. Maintain total visibility across the process and support assistants who provide top‑to‑bottom help. The Interim Controller will also assist in packaging financials, ensuring reporting is digestible for leadership and board audiences.

2. Stabilize and Oversee AP/AR Operations

Oversee recently outsourced AP/AR and ensure accuracy, timeliness, and overall operational stability. Supervise the team responsible for vendor payments, invoice processing, and AR workflows, including offshore resources. Understand legacy system data flows and collaborate with external partners to ensure clean integration into NetSuite.

3. Hands-on Accounting and Process Improvement

Oversee a staff accountant function, ensuring journal entries and transactional accounting are executed correctly. Improve processes when feasible, without compromising close deadlines. Identify bottle-necks and automation opportunity.

Minimum Requirements

Prior experience serving as an Interim Controller or equivalent fractional/transition accounting leader.
Deep hands‑on expertise with NetSuite (must navigate complex workflows).
Experience in technology, services, or tech‑enabled services, ideally within a private equity environment.
Strong GAAP knowledge, P&L ownership, and comfort with sponsor‑level reporting.
Ability to hit the ground running with a clear playbook and strong command of accounting fundamentals.
Advanced Excel skills sufficient to clean, format, and package financials.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience partnering closely with CFOs in growth‑stage or PE‑backed businesses.
Background improving accounting processes, controls, or workflows during scale.
Exposure to offshore accounting team structures.
Familiarity with both recurring and non‑recurring expense analysis in a service‑oriented environment.

Culture & Work Environment

Fast‑paced, collaborative, and mission‑first.
Tight‑knit team with direct CFO partnership.
Low‑ego environment with highly accessible leadership.
Colorado‑casual dress code—jeans welcome with a polished, professional appearance.
Office‑based role; the team values being in the trenches together.

Opportunity Highlights

The Interim Controller will have meaningful impact on a hyper‑growth organization building for its next stage of scale. This is an exceptional opportunity for a hands‑on, ready‑to‑execute accounting leader who thrives in dynamic, mission‑driven environments.
