Non‑sectarian nonprofit organization serving children and adults across the DC, Northern Virginia, and Maryland regions is seeking an experienced Controller to lead day‑to‑day accounting operations and partner closely with the CFO. This is a high-impact role designed to allow the CFO to focus on strategy while the Controller owns operational accounting, reporting, and analysis—with a clear long-term path into broader financial leadership.
Salary - $170,000-$190,000

Key Responsibilities of the Controller
- Oversee day-to-day accounting operations, including AP, AR, payroll and general ledger
- Lea monthly close and prepare accurate, GAAP-compliant financial statements
- Perform trend and variance analysis and deliver clear insights to leadership
- Strengthen internal controls and accounting processes
- Support and prepare for annual audits
- Supervise and develop accounting team
- Partner with CFO to support budgeting, forecasting and financial planning
- Ensure compliance with nonprofit accounting and reporting standards
Qualifications for the Controller

- CPA
- Public Accounting experience
- 10+ years of accounting experience with 5+ years in senior leadership
- Strong nonprofit accounting experience
