The Landscape Laborer plays a crucial role in transforming raw land into functional, aesthetically pleasing landscapes. Responsibilities include preparing sites for development, planting vegetation, installing irrigation systems, and maintaining landscaped areas. This position works closely with landscapers, engineers, and construction professionals to ensure projects are completed efficiently and to high-quality standards. This role requires physical stamina, attention to detail, and a passion for working outdoors.
Key Duties
Landscaping & Site Preparation:
Prepare and grade land for landscaping projects.
Plant and maintain trees, shrubs, flowers, and grass.
Assist in the construction of walkways, retaining walls, and other landscape features.
Equipment Operation & Maintenance:
Install and repair irrigation systems.
Operate landscaping equipment and machinery, including lawnmowers, leaf blowers, and hedge trimmers.
Follow safety guidelines and maintain a clean and organized work environment.
Team Collaboration & Project Execution:
Work closely with team members, engineers, and construction professionals to complete projects on time.
Adhere to landscape designs and specifications to ensure project accuracy.
Qualification Requirements
Education & Experience:
Previous experience in landscaping or construction preferred.
High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
Ability to perform physically demanding tasks in various weather conditions.
Knowledge of plants, irrigation systems, and landscaping techniques.
Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
Valid driver's license may be required for certain projects.
Physical Demands
Constant physical effort, including standing for extended periods during an 8+ hour work shift.
Ability to stoop, bend, crouch, and lift at least 50 lbs frequently and up to 150 lbs with assistance.
Maintain constant awareness of multiple concurrent activities on the job site, including moving equipment and other workers.
Walk frequently on uneven terrain in varying weather conditions.
Ability to climb on and off heavy equipment safely.
Capable of being certified to enter confined spaces, including excavations up to 20 feet deep using ladders or crawling.
Work Environment
Work is performed outdoors in all weather conditions.
Exposure to high noise levels, grease, dust, and dirt, typical of construction projects.
Regularly works near heavy equipment and moving machinery.
May involve handling common construction substances, such as form oil, grease, curing compounds, gasoline, diesel fuel, and asphalt.
