General Description
The Heavy Equipment Mechanic is responsible for performing routine maintenance, service, and repairs on company equipment to ensure safe and efficient operation. This role requires diagnosing mechanical issues, maintaining service records, and working in both shop and field environments.
Key Duties
Equipment Maintenance & Repair
Perform preventative maintenance, inspections, and repairs on heavy equipment.
Diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems.
Maintain accurate service logs and maintenance records.
Develop and follow preventative maintenance routines to reduce breakdowns.
Shop & Field Operations
Work in both shop and field environments to support job site needs.
Maintain a clean and organized workspace, disposing of used parts and materials properly.
Ensure all tools, parts, and equipment are properly maintained and stored.
Safety & Compliance
Follow all safety protocols and OSHA regulations.
Maintain a valid driver’s license and insurability for operating company trucks.
Demonstrate a safety-first approach in all tasks.
General Responsibilities
Communicate professionally with supervisors, teammates, contractors, clients, and vendors.
Perform other duties as assigned to meet company needs.
Qualification Requirements
Education & Experience
High school diploma or GED required.
3–5 years of experience as a Heavy Equipment Mechanic or in a related role.
Ability to understand work directions and communicate effectively.
CDL preferred but not required.
Strong knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulic systems, and electrical components.
Proficiency in reading schematics, technical manuals, and diagnostic tools.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Physical Demands
Constant standing, bending, stooping, and crouching for at least 8 hours per shift.
Ability to lift 50 lbs frequently and up to 150 lbs with assistance.
Walk on uneven terrain in varying weather conditions.
Maintain constant awareness of job site activities and moving equipment.
Safely climb on and off heavy equipment as needed.
Outdoor construction sites and equipment shop in all weather conditions.
Exposure to high noise levels, grease, dust, and heavy machinery.
Regular work near moving equipment and construction materials.
Handling of substances such as form oil, grease, curing compounds, gasoline, diesel fuel, and asphalt.
