JOB GOAL:

To plan, organize and implement an appropriate instructional program in a learning environment that guides and encourages students to develop and fulfill their academic potential. The teacher is responsible for growth in student learning.

Performance Responsibilities
I. Instructional Responsibilities

To establish learning objectives, immediate and long range, with written minimum, daily, weekly or unit lesson plans available in the classroom. Planning shall provide for systematic growth in fundamental knowledge, skills, appreciation, and attitudes.

To teach effectively:

Use class time for teaching designated subject matter as outlined by Board‑approved Program Structure, Curriculum Guides, and/or policies.

Use a variety of techniques to stimulate learning.

Use a variety of curriculum materials.

Differentiate assignments to meet individual needs.

Explain assignments.

Limit homework, making it meaningful to what is being taught.

Evaluate pupils’ learning frequently with a view to improvement of teaching and learning; give frequent teacher‑made tests during each grading period for proper evaluation.

To make provision for individual differences by using effective grouping, procedures or individualizing instruction, utilizing a variety of materials to the pupils’ level.

To maintain an atmosphere in the class conducive to learning.

To demonstrate understanding of child growth and development, showing respect for every child’s individuality.

To exhibit substantial knowledge of subject matter and curriculum objectives.

To maintain control, promote self‑discipline, character and respect for others through positive control techniques consistent with state law, board policy, and school rules.

To use orderly procedures for normal classroom control with simple and consistent routines for roll check, collections, handling materials, sharpening pencils, etc. Provide learning activities during these routines to assure effective use of time.

II. Administrative Responsibilities

Follow rules and regulations of assigned school and Rapides Parish School Board.

Follow time and/or duty schedule authorized by the principal for the school day and extra‑curricular activities.

Non‑duty personnel to report to school ten minutes before school begins and remain ten minutes after school closes.

Sign in and out of school on appropriate forms.

Be in the assigned classroom or other area of responsibility when the class period begins.

A class shall not be left unsupervised.

Remain at school during the day unless permission from the Principal.

Attend any administrative or professional meetings called by the Principal.

Notify the Principal in case of absence in sufficient time to secure a substitute; notify of advance plans to return.

Follow guidelines set forth by Rapides Parish School Board staff.

Maintain an attractive and clean classroom.

Account for and be responsible for the care of all textbooks, desks, furniture, equipment, and instructional materials in the classroom, laboratory or other areas.

Complete required records and reports accurately and on time.

Be responsible for field trips:

Obtain permission from Principal.

Get parents written consent.

Ensure trip has educational value related to current instruction.

Prepare pupils for trip and follow up upon return.

Ensure vehicles have public liability insurance and drivers licensed.

Ensure trips are adequately chaperoned and pupils supervised.

Ensure all children are picked up by authorized person before teacher leaves; no child left unattended.

III. Professional Responsibilities

Exhibit enthusiasm and self‑confidence, assuming a positive attitude about growth and development of all pupils.

Maintain good public relations, providing positive contributions to parents’ understanding of pupils’ progress.

Be ethical in contacts with parents, other laymen, fellow professionals, and pupils.

Participate in faculty and system‑wide in‑service programs, keep current through college courses, workshops, conferences, and reading professional literature.

Be loyal to the administration of the school system and the school.

Establish and execute a professional growth and self‑evaluation plan per Rapides Parish School Board Personnel Evaluation Plan.

Carry out Performance Expectations and Indicators for Teachers per NIET rubric (Bulletin 130). Detailed sub‑domains (Standards, Motivation, Presentation, Lesson Structure, Activities, Questioning, Feedback, Grouping, Content Knowledge, Knowledge of Students, Thinking, Problem Solving) are referenced and expected to be implemented.

IV. Personal Responsibilities

Observe standards of conduct inside and outside school, demonstrating integrity, dependability, and setting an example.

Set a good example by dressing appropriately and being well groomed per dress code.

Use language void of vulgarity, lewdness, or profanity.

Maintain self‑control and poise.

Maintain good general health and physical vitality to perform duties effectively.

Enunciate clearly in a pleasant voice, express ideas clearly, employ good English usage.

Demonstrate ability to adjust to new situations, show control and effectiveness under pressure, and mature problem‑solving.

Accept responsibility based on assigned tasks and meet obligations to pupils and staff on time.

Be in attendance at work except for personal illness or emergency per policy.

Perform any other duties assigned by superintendent or evaluator within scope during contracted hours.

Follow Federal, State, School Board, and school policies.

Teacher Duties Summary

Prepare and implement lesson plans, instruction, grading, attendance, parent communication, and school committee contributions.

Supervise students at school events, drop‑off, recess, lunch, assemblies, and after‑school pick‑up.

Attend meetings: faculty, staff, IEP, parent‑teacher conferences, back‑to‑school, graduation, PGP, PIP, evaluation, observation, IAP, discipline hearings, and school board meetings.

Attend extracurricular activity meetings.
