REPORTS TO:

Principal/Assistant Principal/Other Assigned Evaluator

JOB GOAL:

To plan, organize and implement an appropriate instructional program in a learning environment that guides and encourages students to develop and fulfill their academic potential. The teacher is responsible for growth in student learning.

TERM:

Nine, Ten, Eleven or Twelve Months

Performance Responsibilities
I. Instructional Responsibilities

Establish learning objectives, immediate and long-range, with written minimum, daily, weekly or unit lesson plans available in the classroom. Planning should provide for systematic growth in fundamental knowledge, skills, appreciation, and attitudes.

Teach effectively using class time for designated subject matter as outlined by Board-approved program structure, curriculum guides, and/or policies; use a variety of techniques to stimulate learning; differentiate assignments to meet individual needs; explain assignments; limit homework and ensure it is meaningful to what is taught; evaluate student learning frequently with teacher-made tests during each grading period for proper pupil evaluation.

Differentiate instruction and use effective grouping and materials appropriate to students’ levels.

Maintain an atmosphere conducive to learning.

Demonstrate understanding of child growth and development, showing respect for individuality of every child.

Exhibit substantial knowledge of subject matter and curriculum objectives.

Maintain classroom control and promote self-discipline and respect for others through positive control techniques in keeping with state law, board policy, and school rules.

Use orderly procedures for routines (roll check, collections, materials handling, etc.) and provide learning activities during these routines to ensure effective use of time.

II. Administrative Responsibilities

Follow the rules and regulations of the assigned school and the Rapides Parish School Board.

Adhere to a time and/or duty schedule authorized by the school principal for the school day and extra-curricular activities.

Ensure non-duty personnel report to school as required and remain after school as needed.

Sign in and out of school on appropriate forms.

Be in the assigned classroom or other area of responsibility when the class period begins; a class shall not be left unsupervised.

Remain at school during the day unless permission is obtained from the Principal.

Attend administrative and/or professional meetings called by the Principal.

Notify the Principal in advance of any absence to secure a substitute; notify in advance plans to return to school.

Follow guidelines set by the Rapides Parish School Board staff; maintain an attractive and clean classroom.

Maintain care of textbooks, desks, furniture, equipment, and instructional materials assigned to the classroom or area of responsibility.

Complete required records and reports neatly and on time.

Plan and conduct field trips with proper approvals and safety measures; supervise appropriately.

III. Professional Responsibilities

Exhibit enthusiasm and self-confidence; maintain a positive attitude about growth and development of all pupils.

Maintain good public relations and communicate pupil progress to parents.

Be ethical in contacts with parents, professionals, and students.

Participate in in-service programs and pursue relevant professional development.

Be loyal to the administration and the school.

Establish and execute a professional growth and self-evaluation plan as per district policies.

Carry out NIET rubric indicators within the Instructional Domain, including standards and objectives, motivating students, presenting instructional content, lesson structure and pacing, activities and materials, questioning, academic feedback, grouping, teacher content knowledge, teacher knowledge of students, thinking, and problem solving.

IV. Personal Responsibilities

Observe standards of conduct, integrity and dependability; set a desirable example for pupils.

Dress appropriately and maintain good grooming as per dress code.

Use language that is appropriate and respectful.

Maintain self-control, poise, and good health to perform duties.

Communicate clearly and use proper English; adjust to new situations with maturity.

Attend work as required and perform other duties assigned within the scope of teaching and learning during contracted hours.

Follow Federal, State, School Board and school policies.

Additional Duties

Instructional Components: lesson plans, instruction, collaboration, grading, attendance, grade entry, family communication, committees, and professional practices.

Supervision: supervision of students at school-related events and transitions.

Non-instructional Components: attend meetings, trainings, IEP meetings, parent conferences, open-house, graduation, and board/committee meetings as requested.

Extracurricular Activities: sponsor responsibilities for activities or clubs.
