Summary
The Machine Shop Supervisor plans and coordinates daily machine shop operations, translating production schedules into actionable manufacturing plans. This role manages capacity planning, collaborates cross‑functionally with multiple departments, and drives results in a fast‑paced environment. Work is primarily on the shop floor with occasional after‑hours support as needed.
Schedule Requirement
Night shift position. Must be available to work Monday‑Thursday 7:00 PM‑5:30 AM and Friday 9:00 PM‑5:30 AM, with occasional weekend work as needed.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Learning the processes and products and becoming a "student of the business".
Providing support and coordination for cycle counting WIP and overall annual physical inventory.
Coordinating with the Machine Shop Manager to execute a daily production plan for each month.
Verifying material availability for production orders either directly or with the warehouse team.
Ensuring adequate hourly manpower is available to support production requirements.
Supervising hourly machine shop operators.
Driving consistent improvement of employee productivity via leadership and direct supervision.
Providing daily feedback on actual production performance versus schedule to all machine shop employees.
Continually monitoring and reporting daily status of production orders on the shop floor.
Leading or directly performing accurate and timely internal job order processing on the ERP system.
Utilizing analysis skills to determine root causes of quality issues and implement actions to resolve them.
Providing and following Disaster Preparedness and Emergency Procedures.
Following ISO type process instructions and procedures.
Actively enforcing company safety policies and procedures.
Initiating Corrective Action plans and documentation when required.
Providing subject matter expertise for software implementations and upgrades.
Ensuring the highest level of process compliance and accuracy are maintained for all activities.
Maintaining clear and accurate records.
Qualifications & Attributes
High School diploma/GED required; bachelor level college degree in business related subject area preferred.
3‑5 years of machine shop leadership experience, managing and developing people.
Significant hands‑on experience operating within an ERP system utilizing a work order process.
Valid Alabama Driver License with satisfactory driving record required.
History of working within a matrix type of organization.
Experience completing employee performance evaluations.
Analytical, problem‑solving, and decision‑making skills.
High energy personality with a hands‑on, lead‑by‑example leadership style.
Computer skills including Microsoft office.
Competent written and oral communication.
Must possess general manual dexterity to operate computer, equipment, tools, controls, or other objects; reach with hands or arms.
Must possess mental acuity for attention to accuracy and detail.
Must see in the normal visual range with or without correction.
Must hear in the normal audio range with or without correction.
