7:45 am to 3:45 pm
POSITION OVERVIEW:
The Waverly‑Shell Rock Community School District is seeking a dedicated Middle School Counselor to join our Student Services team. This position partners with a team of two counselors to lead, advocate, and collaborate in delivering comprehensive support services to students in grades 58, along with their families and staff. The ideal candidate is passionate about supporting young adolescents through a critical stage of development and thrives in an inclusive, team‑oriented educational environment.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Work to discover and develop special abilities of students
Support new students and families and orient them to school practices
Work to promote positive, regular attendance and build relationships with all students, but particularly our at‑risk population
Provide individual counseling and facilitate small groups
Provide classroom instruction (Good People Skills (GPS)) to fifth and sixth grade students.
Provide crisis intervention and support as well as make referrals to outside agencies
Communicate regularly and effectively with students, families, and administration
Promote the purpose and the use of the Student Services spaces, including the quiet quarters and mind matters room.
Support academic and career planning
Address social and emotional issues that affect a student's well‑being
Collaborate with the Student Services team to implement programs and interventions to assist students
Collaborate with grade‑level teams
Support the school's mission of growing, learning, and leading
Contribute to a culture where all students experience belonging, opportunity, and achievement
EDUCATION and LICENSURE:
Master's degree in School Counseling from an accredited institution of higher education
Iowa teaching license or professional service license with endorsement 172 or 173
