Summary: Facilitate smooth patient flow within the oncology office by managing accurate and timely entry of charges, initiating new patient medical records, and efficiently scheduling patient visits. Ensure prompt submission of reports to support clinical operations.
Major Responsibilities:
Complete new patient information packets, including consents, insurance forms, and other clinical documentation.
Verify and update patient demographic and insurance information in the computer system.
Schedule appointments for follow-up visits and procedures, determining the appropriate provider, appointment length, and timing.
Accurately post charges to patient accounts and collect payments, preparing receipts as needed.
Maintain and balance the cash drawer, ensuring accuracy and security at shift end.
Respond to basic patient inquiries regarding bills and insurance coverage.
Direct patients to the appropriate clinical areas.
Secure the office at the end of each shift and perform other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience:
High school diploma or equivalent required.
Minimum of 1 year clerical experience; medical business office or significant public contact experience preferred.
Skills and Abilities:
Ability to interact compassionately with patients under stress.
Strong organizational and planning skills.
Proficient with office equipment and computer systems.
Effective verbal communication skills.
Physical Requirements:
Visual and auditory acuity to read printed data and computer screens.
Manual dexterity for data entry and handling documents.
Ability to lift, stoop, bend, kneel, reach, and sit for extended periods.
